“Fine, fine.” He untangled from the chair and kissed the top of my head on his way to the door. “Have fun tonight. Give the guy a chance. If his alpha is riding him about you as hard as mine is about Kara, it’s probably practically painful for him to be rejected repeatedly.”

I arrived at the theater a few minutes late because Anna had to redo my hair three times before I was happy with it. But a few minutes late for me was still early, so Will was just walking up from the other direction at the same time. I took a moment to check him out. He really was so incredibly handsome. And although several beautiful girls tried to get his attention as he walked, he politely acknowledged them and kept moving. I must admit I was pleasantly surprised. And my scent must’ve given me away because Will’s head snapped up and found me immediately. His smile bloomed, and those dimples came out to play.

“Good evening, Sweet Pea. Are you ready for the most romantic evening of your life?”

“Wow, setting the bar high, I see.”

He finally reached me, and I was surprised to find myself drifting in for a hug.

“Absolutely. I am an athlete. I thrive in competition. And I aim to be the best. So tonight, the theater world is your oyster. You want extra butter on your popcorn? Done. You want four kinds of candy? How crazy, me too!”

Laughter bubbled out of me, and Will reached down to grab my hand and lead me inside. I guess we were really doing this.

After Will bought our tickets, we stopped by the little concession stand and did indeed buy four kinds of candy. I mostly wanted to see if he would do it, and he did. We also got some drinks and popcorn to share.

We were early enough that we had the pick of seats in the theater, and he let me choose. Dead center, of course.

“No, no. Put your drink in the cup holder on the other side,” he directed.

“What? Why?”

“Why?” he scoffed. “This is a romantic comedy. You’re going to swoon and want to cuddle, and I just don’t want your drink in the way.”

His confidence knew no bounds.

“This is only our first date. We’re not cuddling.” I crossed my arms as if that would protect me.

“I’m going to consider this our fourth date, actually.”

I choked on my sip of soda. “What?”

“Well, to be fair, our first date at The Botanist was a bust, but my mocktail was good. Then I’m counting the arcade—”

“You cannot count the arcade.”

“—and the Cocoa Cotillion. So this makes four.” He was extremely pleased with himself.

“You can’t just count every time we’ve been around each other as a date! There’s a protocol!” I sputtered.

He leaned in close enough that I thought he was going to kiss me again but then softly whispered, “I can do whatever I want.”

I tried to scoff again, but his proximity was messing with my brain, and when the lights dimmed to signal the start of the movie and he reached for my hand, I let him.

Apparently, hecoulddo whatever he wanted.

“That was terrible.”

“Come on, it wasn’t so bad!” I defended.

“It was, and you know it. But we survived it. Want me to walk you home?” he offered.

We were walking out of the theater after the extremely cheesy Christmas movie, and I realized I didn’t want the evening to end yet.

“Actually, why don’t we walk around downtown for a bit before we head back?”

Will and his dimples beamed. “I’d love that, Omega.”

The thrill I got from hearing him call me omega would be my little secret.
