“I saw Will drag you off. You okay?” His voice was filled with concern.

“I’m not sure. I agreed to a courting date with him.”

Wide eyes stared at me. “You did?”

“I did. I guess I decided he deserved a chance. My omegaclearlythinks he does.”

“Yeah, girl. Get it,” Kara teased and did a little shimmy.

“Finally listening to her? Good for you.” He glanced around. “I’d steer clear of Grant now though. He was livid you left him high and dry.”

I let out a big sigh. “No, I need to find him. Ditching him was rude, and I need to apologize. I’ll catch up with you guys later.”

I strolled around the student union, enjoying the festive feel in the air. When I saw Daniel near the cocoa bar with another omega and didn’t feel an ounce of jealousy, I knew he wasn’t in consideration for me. I probably already knew that though.

I finally found Grant sitting in a large wingback chair by the fireplace, waiting for me, looking every bit the regal overlord he wanted to be.

“Finally finished with that meathead?” he sneered.

“I’m sorry, Grant. While I did want to talk to Will, it was rude to leave you like that. I apologize.” His scent grew and reached out to me, signaling his deep pleasure at my immediate and sincere apology.

“Thank you, Omega.” He stood and gathered me into his arms, rubbing my back and nuzzling my head with his cheek as though replacing every particle of Will’s scent with his own. I started to chuckle at the uselessness of doing that when their scents were so similar, but I recognized that Grant wouldn’t take my humor well right now. It was probably best if I wrapped the night up.

“I think I’m done for the evening. I’m gonna head home.”

“Are you sure? Would you like me to walk you?”

“No, thank you. Stay. Enjoy the party. Will I see you again soon?”

“Of course, Mia. I’ll submit another courting request immediately.”

I smiled and offered my cheek for a kiss goodnight before heading to grab my coat. As I hurried home, it occurred to me that while omegas typically weren’t consulted about courting plans, I was surprisingly displeased that Grant hadn’t asked my opinion when Will had. I tried to shake that thought off. Grant had been so attentive and considerate that I was sure he would come up with something I’d love.

Chapter Seventeen

CEDAR: Courting date with Alpha Fitzwilliam Rossi. Tuesday 7pm. Student Union Theater. To confirm text YES. To decline text NO.

Ireadthetext. Then I made Anna read the text. Then I made Tanner read the text. I still couldn’t believe it. Will had actually submitted the date for us to seeKissmas Eve. I was torn between laughing at the absurdity and swooning at the persistence. No hot-blooded alpha would agree to see a Christmas romantic comedy unless he was serious about the omega. So I guess he was serious about me.

“What do you wear to a movie date?” Anna asked, perplexed.

“I don’t know. That’s why you’re here!”

Tanner chuckled from where he was splayed across my chair in the corner, playing on his phone.

“What?” we both snapped at him.

“It doesn’t matter what you wear! You could wear a trash bag, and if the guy’s into you, he’s into you.”

Anna scoffed. “Yeah… we’re not going to take that advice.” She went back to flipping through my closet before settling on a maroon sweater, jeans, and boots. “Don’t you have your own omega to woo?”

He sighed dramatically and dropped his head back. “Yes. I’m seeing her tonight. And she could be wearing a trash bag for all I care.” He thought for a moment. “Actually, that would make taking it off so much easier…”

“You’re sleeping with her?” I screeched. While not expressly prohibited, it was seriously frowned upon. Blending scents and the risk of biting in the heating of the moment, it was all dangerous for unbonded couples.

“No,” he whined. “But a guy can wish.”

I threw a pillow at him. “Get out. I need to get ready, and you need to get your mind out of the gutter.”
