“I’m sorry. I’m so very sorry.” Tears escaped for the millionth time over the last few days, but I tried to hold it together.

“I talked to Omega Reid. She told me about Grant. About…about his scent m-masking.” It was getting harder to talk, and being this close to my alpha without him comforting me was brutal.

He sighed. “I’m sorry you had to find out. I was hoping it could be handled without you knowing the details.”

“No!” I yelled. “I’m glad I know. He was manipulating me! It was your scent I loved, not his!”

He finally pulled me inside, wrapping me in his arms and holding me close.

“Shhh, calm, Omega. It’s okay, he’s gone.”

I pulled back so I could look him in the eye. “Because of you! How did you know?”

He shrugged. “I wasn’t certain, but I thought it was odd that you’d be attracted to two guys with such similar scents. That’s just so weird. What are the chances? So I went to talk to the alpha advisor about it. When he pulled up Grant’s file and saw that coconut was listed instead of key lime pie, Grant was called in for questioning. I wasn’t allowed to stay for that part and it was allsupposedto be anonymous, but obviously word got out.” He gestured to me. “Hunter filled me in on his tantrum in the dorms. I guess he was right to blame it on me though.”

“Omega Reid tried to keep it confidential. She never admitted to anything specific about you. She said I had a lime-scented match that he was trying to mimic to force our bond. I should’ve seen it.” I leaned forward, pressing my forehead into his chest, fully disregarding his personal space and so thankful he wasn’t pushing me away.

“I’m sorry. I’m sorry I didn’t see it. I’m sorry I was so easily manipulated. I said things I didn’t mean.” I placed my hands on his chest and looked up into his clear blue eyes. “You are my alpha. I’m sorry I denied it for so long.”

He reached for my hands and slowly moved them off his chest and took a step back.

I thought my heart was going to break again. The lush floral scent that had been weaving around us went rotten very quickly.

“No, no. I’m not rejecting you, Mia.”

“Omega,” I forced. I needed to be Omega to him, or Mate would work. But not just Mia.

“Omega,” he smiled down at me, “I amnotrejecting you. I just think that you need some time to sort through this.”

“No!” I growled. Will just smiled, and it reminded me of Tanner calling me a cute, angry, baby tiger. I needed him to listen!

“I need us to start over. I need to courtyou. You have been nothing but a gentleman since the moment we met, and I’ve been absolutely vile!”

“There were a few very ungentlemanly moments, if I recall…” His dimples were back and my scent was too. I blushed at the reminder of our illicit kisses during my campaign here. He was distracting me.

“Another courting date, please? A real one. With no brainwashing to distract me.”

“Are you sure?”

I stretched up onto my toes so I could be a little closer to seeing him eye to eye, hoping he’d feel my sincerity. “Absolutely!” He took advantage of the closer distance and leaned the rest of the way in for a kiss.

Stunned, I froze. I was hoping he’d accept my apology, but this, this was heavenly.

I ran my hands up his strong arms to tangle my fingers in his hair. I still had my coat on, so it was all a little awkward and fumbly, but I certainly wasn’t going to stop.

His soft lips and that lime scent that I loved, and knowing that this alpha wasmine, it was overwhelming. I wanted to feel it all. Forever.

“Wait!” He pulled awayagain, and I scowled. “I told you that I wasn’t going to kiss you again. You had to make the next move.”

I smirked and shrugged. “Easy.” I grabbed his neck and pulled him right back in for another kiss. And then another.

“A courting date?” I whispered.

“Yes. Anything. Everything.” He gasped between kisses.

I gave in to the feeling for a moment. Savored the touch and feel and scent and taste of my mate. Strong hands and wide shoulders. Warm skin and rapid heart.

His scent filled the air, and I wanted to bathe in it. I wanted everyone to know who I belonged to.
