“Trial? What trial? He’s gone! Left ranting about Will—wait. Will was the source!”

“I… can neither confirm nor deny that…” she hedged. “But it appears that you had a good match that had a lime scent and Mr. Moore attempted to mimic that.”

I sat back and sighed. “Will reported Grant for masking his scent? Why didn’t he just mention it to me? He could’ve outed Grant to me easily.” I was mostly talking to myself, thinking out loud, but Omega Reid took pity on me.

“Icansay that our source was very insistent that we keep this as quiet as possible. That a scandal involving scent masking and the potential for a forced mating would be harmful to you and your family, both personally and to your reputations. He wanted this handled as discreetly as possible.”

My shattered heart glued back together a little bit at the idea that Will was just trying to protect me.

“What do I do now?” I asked, the lack of rest finally catching up to me and leaving me exhausted.

“Mr. Moore was supposed to stand trial, so if he just left, we’ll need to talk to the administration about that. But fortunately it sounds like he wasn’t your alpha after all. Were you courting any other alphas?”

I closed my eyes, admitting defeat. “I was. But I’m not sure anymore. This is such a mess now.”

“I am sincerely sorry this happened, Miss Torres. We pride ourselves on creating an environment where bonds can safely be discovered, and we let you down. I can assure you scent masking is incredibly rare and highly illegal, so while you might be hesitant of the legitimacy of your other matches, I’m certain the connections are credible and trustworthy. While I can’t share any more details about Mr. Moore’s report, it sounds like you might know where to get more.”

“Thank you, Omega Reid. I appreciate you telling me as much as you could today.”

“You’re welcome. And some friendly advice, omega to omega?”

I nodded, urging her to continue.

“We say that the point of the Season is to find your perfect mate—”

“Right. Perfection.”

She tilted her head as though I heard her but didn’t quite get the message. “The alpha that is perfect for you might not be perfect. But he will be perfectfor you.”

I smiled, finally reading her message loud and clear.

“Oh, Omega Reid, one more thing?”

“Hm?”

“Fitzwilliam Rossi? Do you mind verifying his scent for me?” I asked, nervously.

She just smiled, understanding my need for reassurance. A few clicks on the keyboard and she turned the monitor back toward me again.

FITZWILLIAM ROSSI

SCENT: LIME & SALT

I let out a sigh of relief. Sounded like I had to go hunt down the alpha that was perfect for me.

And I was going to need to start with a big apology.

Chapter Twenty-Two

AsIheadedtoWill’s place, I ran through a hundred possible scenarios. Possible ways to apologize. But none of them seemed good enough.

I had pushed Will away at every turn, and yet when he discovered what Grant had done, instead of using it against me, he tried to keep the whole thing quiet to protect me. I shook my head. What an idiot I’d been.

I lightly knocked on Will’s door, very different from the last time I was here.

I heard him approaching the door and held my breath to see if he’d open it.

“Mia?” he asked, understandably surprised to see me standing there.
