The next few matings flowed smoothly. The heartbroken omega with the beta boyfriend ended up with a handsome alpha, and she certainly looked happy about it. I hope the poor beta had some consolation too.

Another omega ended up with two mates! Practically unheard of. She wore a two-strand collar, and each unlocked for a different alpha. She was going to have her hands full. Literally. I snickered like a schoolgirl, and Anna gave me a look. I knew she’d had the same thought.

“Omega Mia Torres!”

Anna squeezed my arm, practically vibrating with excitement for me. I stood and shuffled my way down the row and out into the aisle. Every step I took in my sequin dress threw reflections around the room like a disco ball.Way to make an entrance, Mia.

I joined Beta Golding on stage, and when he gestured to the chair, I perched on the edge and crossed my ankles, years of etiquette training not allowing otherwise.

“Please call up your alpha,” Golding said.

I took a deep breath and locked eyes with my mate in the back of the room.

“I request Alpha Fitzwilliam Rossi.”

The room went silent.

The courting process was relatively private. There’s typically no splashy displays of affection or bold announcements until the mating ceremony. (Unless you were as love-struck and gregarious as Tanner, of course.)

So no one outside our inner circles knew I was going to request Will. And they were universally shocked. Just as Tanner had originally joked, we were the picture of good girl reforms the bad boy.

I couldn’t hide the smug smirk I wore as my gorgeous mate made his way to me. Once on stage, he leaned down and gave me a chaste kiss.

“No touching, please, Fitzwilliam.” He turned back to the crowd when he was sure that Will would behave.

“Alpha Rossi, bark when you’re ready.”

I closed my eyes, and my whole body tensed. Not being able to see him as he stood behind me heightened the intensity of the moment.

“OMEGA, SUBMIT!”

His deep bark flowed through me, lighting me up. This alpha wasmine.

My pearls dropped into my lap, finally free.

He scooped me up into his arms, and I was in heaven.

“Mine,” he whispered as he kissed my bare neck.

“Yours.”

He proudly grabbed the loose strand of pearls and held them and me, turning to the crowd and howling with all the other alpha males.

Tears were falling down my face, elation and relief and joy and contentment all overflowing. And not an ounce of doubt.

Golding ushered us off the stage so the ceremony could continue, but Will refused to let me go. He slid into the row with my sister and Tanner, keeping me firmly in his lap. We sat through the last few matings, but I didn’t pay attention to a single one.

Chapter Twenty-Seven

CEDAR: New Years Eve Party. Saturday 9pm. Briar Lake Prep Grand Ballroom. Attendance is optional. No reply needed.

Willwassupposedtogo to the school’s gym to work out this afternoon before tonight’s New Year’s Eve party, but there was practically a blizzard outside, so I convinced him to stay in with me. It wasn’t hard.

But he was committed to his fitness, so he was currently in the middle of the living room floor doing push-ups while I was curled up on the sofa watching a holiday baking show. I swear I was.

“Omega…” my mate growled from across the room. “I can smell you from over here, even through your blanket. It better not be those pies turning you on.”

“They’re tarts,” I teased, keeping my eyes on the TV.
