Blair and I met at a bar two years ago. I was there with some buddies after work, she was there to meet a guy who never showed. I struck up a conversation with her, immediately hitting it off with the pretty blonde. She was pissed that she had been stood up by some guy and wasn’t ready to call it a night. We chatted for a while over a couple rounds of drinks, keeping the conversation light. Then we finished the night off at my place, fucking for hours. She never told me what she did for work, and I never asked. We didn’t need those types of details for what we wanted out of each other. We both just wanted to get off. The next morning, she left happy.

She doesn’t look very happy now.

Blair’s eyes jerk away from mine as she sweeps into the room with confidence, stopping next to Geoff, to exchange a few quick, quiet words. He raises his eyebrows at her as if he’s asking for her approval. She subtly nods, then they both turn their attention to the rest of us, who are waiting patiently to find out why the hell we were all called here.

Geoff clears his throat. “Sorry about the short notice today but thank you to everyone for coming. The reason we’re all here… I’d like you all to meet Blair Winters. She will be replacing Morgan as the new corporate communications officer.”

What? He’s got to be kidding.

I had no idea they were even interviewing for the position, never mind that they had decided to give the job to Blair of all people. I’m surprised I never once caught wind of this, that Beck didn’t mention that Morgan was leaving the company.

Blair steps forward to introduce herself, her slender shoulders pinned back, standing as tall as her five-foot-five frame will allow. She’s confident, already in control of the room, and I’m reminded of that night we met at the bar. It had been obvious then she was secure in who she was, boldly holding my gaze when I’d spotted her across the room. But that’s not the case today, at least not with me—she hasn’t so much as glanced in my direction again.

“It’s an honor to be working at The Liberty and I’m excited to get to know each and every one of you. I want you to know, I’m not here to change everything. What the Liberty team has accomplished is impressive. I’m here to work alongside you and make The Liberty even greater.”

My heart rate speeds at the thought of seeing her at work every day.

When she’s done talking, Geoff explains that she’ll be officially starting the position on Monday. He calls the meeting to a close, and the sound of chairs scraping against the laminate floor fills the room as everyone gets up to introduce themselves. It gives me a chance to hang back as I try to decide how I want to approach her.

Too late.

Before I get a chance to say anything, Geoff apologizes to the group, saying he needs to get Blair to legal to finish up some paperwork. I watch as she gathers up her things and follows Geoff out of the boardroom without so much as a backwards glance.

What a fucking disaster. I love my job at The Liberty, but working with Blair could be awkward as hell. I blow out a breath, massaging the back of my neck. Do I tell Beckett about my history with her? Fucking great. It’s not even two hours ago that he was comparing me to the town bicycle and now I’m going to prove him right by telling him I slept with our newest hire.

A muscle in my jaw tenses. I tell myself to go back to my office and think before I do something I’ll regret, like striding down to Blair’s new office to demand that we talk this out. Devise a plan. Get on the same page.

I resist the temptation, annoyed at this unexpected turn of events. This morning the world was my fucking oyster, now it’s a cluster fuck of epic proportions.

I HAVE CHICKS BEGGING FOR MY DICK.

Grayson

It’s been five days since I learned about Blair joining The Liberty, but I still haven’t said a word to anyone about our past. Not even to Beck. My head has been spinning, and the fact that Blair seems to be actively avoiding me at work isn’t helping. I tried to approach her in the lunchroom a couple of days ago, but she walked out as quickly as she had come in when she saw me. I’m starting to wonder if the company is big enough for both Blair and me. Or am I just worrying about nothing?

The one positive in all of this is that the shit storm currently brewing at workhashelped to take my mind off Sierra for a little while.

It’s been days since I last saw her unless you count yesterday morning when I caught a quick glimpse of her as she left for work. I was sitting in my car about to pull out of my driveway when I saw her walk out her door wearing a white button-up blouse, fitted black skirt and a pair of heels that made her legs look five feet long. I’m pretty sure my eyes bugged out of their sockets as I watched her walk to her car, completely entranced by the graceful way she moved.

The lack of contact between us has me wondering if Sierra has retreated back into avoidance mode. Fuck.Between the potential disaster at work and Sierra being incommunicado, I can hardly think straight. But at least it’s Friday. I’m ready to have a drink or three and forget about all of it for a while.

Right on cue, Tucker crosses the room and hands me a cold beer. I could kiss him. We’re at Jake’s weekend cookout, and despite my intention to put Sierra out of my mind, I can’t help but wonder if I might see her tonight. Will she still show up to her brother’s party, knowing that I’ll probably be here?

I get an answer to that question when the door opens a few moments later and I look up to see Sierra standing there, just feet away from me. My eyes trace the curves of her body as she walks into the party, taking in her slim waist, full hips, ample tits, and the fitted spaghetti strap dress that hugs her curves. Every single one of them.

My cock swells in my jeans.

I can’t keep my eyes off her as she says hi to her brother, Tucker, and Holden. Sierra smiles like there’s no place she’d rather be, introducing herself next to Holden’s girlfriend, Aubrey, chatting effortlessly as if she’s known her for years. I watch as she moves through the room with ease, throwing her arms around Jules when she sees her. Beckett is also a mountain biking addict, so I invited him to join Jake and me on the trails a few times a while ago, and the two of them became quick friends. Jules and Beck are now regulars at Jake’s frequent get togethers.

Finally, Sierra turns to me with a gleam in her eyes—or maybe that’s just my wishful thinking. I hope that she’s as happy to see me as I am to see her. “Best for last,” I joke as she walks over to me, trying to ignore my pulse hammering under my skin.

“Do I know you?” she teases back, and I’m so fucking happy things still seem to be okay between us. This is, after all, what I’ve been most nervous about: feeling normal around her and her brother and our friends. So far, so good. “I don’t believe we’ve met.”

I mock pout, then her arms slide around my neck, and I wrap mine around her waist in a hug. “It’s good to see you, Grayson.”

One second.
