Filling my plate, I sat at the counter and poured syrup onto the stack. “Have you heard from Harrison yet this morning?”

True grinned. “I have. The reviews of the show were impressive. It’s been nothing but positive press for the record and even more positive press for you and me and this little one.” He tickled Phoenix’s foot.

Pure joy radiated off of him, and it was contagious. I found myself grinning like an idiot right along with him. “What does this mean? How were sales?”

He moved around the island to me, spinning me on the stool I was sitting on until I faced him, and he stepped between my legs. He tugged on the end of my ponytail, wrapping it around his fist until he tilted my head back. “It means,” he leaned down and pressed his lips to mine. “I got an apology from the label because it sold almost two million copies.”

I shrieked, and Phoenix jumped and then started to whimper. “Oh, my god!” I jumped off the stool and as carefully as I could flung myself into his arms. “I’m so proud of you.”

He laughed and held onto me while also rocking us both back and forth to try and soothe our little girl. “I dreamed of this moment, but even in my wildest dreams, it wasn’t even close to this good.”

“What about Lexi?”

“What about her? She’s not my problem anymore. I’ve got lawyers dealing with it. I’m not wasting any more time on her, but she’s about to pay for our kid’s college funds.”

I chuckled. “Kids? As in more than one?”

“Honey, we’re just getting started.”

One month later…

Not havingto hide my wife and daughter from the world was beyond words. I'd never been happier in my life than over the past month. My album skyrocketed to the top of every chart and stayed there. Since Lexi didn't want a long, drawn-out lawsuit, she'd settled with my attorneys, and now not only was Phoenix's college paid for, but we started a scholarship fund, too.

All in all, I'd say everything had been worth it.

Last week, Amara launched her app, and so far, it was doing really well. I knew for her it was about more than the money. The money didn't matter. What was important to her was giving women the opportunity to build their owntribesas she called them.

She'd explained it all to me, and I knew her work was important to her. Lucky for me, it also allowed her to be incredibly flexible with her schedule. I never wanted our kids to be in daycare, and I knew that traveling a lot was usually part of the whole musician gig. We'd been lucky this past year that there hadn't been much travel while she was pregnant with Phoenix.

Standing out on my deck with my daughter strapped to my chest, I closed my eyes and breathed in the salty ocean air, letting the breeze ruffle my hair. The afternoon sun shone down and warmed up my face, and I felt nothing but content until my phone buzzed in my pocket.

I smiled when I glanced at the screen before answering the call. "Harrison. What's going on?"

"Are you still avoiding the media?" he asked.

"Yep. I can't stand all the gossip bullshit." I rubbed the top of my daughter's head, making sure she wasn't getting too warm in the sun.

"Well, you know I can't. Hazards of the job, I'm afraid. Anyway, I was just clicking into CNT and noticed the headline was about your fake ex-girlfriend."

I rolled my eyes. Lexi was not a favorite topic of mine. "I really don't care about Lexi, Harrison."

"I know, mate. But I thought you'd want to know karma's a bitch. Even if not for you, celebrate with me because that whole thing was a bloody nightmare."

"I don't want to celebrate someone else's misfortune, so I feel torn about how happy I am that things aren't going well for her. It's sad, but she deserves it."

Harrison chuckled. "See? You get it. Her latest movie completely bombed, and her agent fired her. She ran off to rehab to hide from the media because they've been tearing her to shreds over what she did to you. I know we were hopeful that people would be on your side when the truth came out, but you have no idea. People are going all torches and pitchforks on her on social media now."

"Maybe she can use this as a wakeup call then and stop treating people like they're stepping stones to help her get whatever it is she wants." Phoenix started to kick her legs and whimper against my chest. "Listen, Harrison. I've gotta go. Will I see you tonight?"

"Yeah, mate. I'll be there. Later." I shoved my phone in my pocket and rubbed my daughter's back, hummingSurfer Girlto her on the way inside to find Amara to feed her. There was nothing more beautiful than watching my wife and daughter together.

I found Amara in our office, and as she looked up from her computer, a jolt ran through me like it always did when I saw her. I wanted to pull her into my arms and bury myself inside her. The fact it had been almost two months since I'd been able to was probably making the situation worse. It'd gotten so bad that all I had to do was look at her and my dick was hard and ready to go.

Adjusting myself was a necessity because my zipper was uncomfortably pressing into my cock. When I moved myself with my hand, Amara's eyes dropped to follow the movement, and I watched as her pupils dilated.

Fuck.

She wanted me just as much as I wanted her, and the last six weeks had been torture for both of us.
