When I get out of the shower, I change into a pair of black jeans, a black Guns n Roses T-shirt and a black leather jacket. I finish off the look with black combat boots - the uniform of the life.

I wear a black beanie to hide my hair. Walking down the street I could be just about any white man in his thirties. I put on my ray bans, thankful that we are only at the tail end of summer, so the sun is still shining and I don't look out of place.

Tommy’s man doesn’t keep me waiting. He is parked outside the hotel waiting for me as I step out of my room. Even better, I recognize him as Tommy's cousin, Carlo. I remember him as a teenager who used to run after Tommy as if the sun rose out of his ass.

I smile at him and nod, “Carlo, it's good to see you.”

He grins at me, “You remember me Mr. Monti.”

“Of course I do.” I clap him on the shoulder as he opens the back door of his SUV for me, “You’re unforgettable.”

His face flushes bright red, and I almost aww at how sweet it is. I refrain from making fun though, mostly because I don't have the energy. I have to reserve that to persuade Tommy. This mission is too important to risk.

CHAPTEREIGHTEEN

Getting away from the house has a hugely beneficial effect on my mental health. I immediately feel less crazy.

My aunt puts her hand on top of mine, “What did you mean when you said you were sexually assaulted?” she asks quietly.

I take a deep breath, “Yesterday, during the party he threw, Patrizio assaulted me.”

Aunt Ludovica puts her hand to her mouth in shock, “What?”

I nod. “Yeah. That's what happened.”

She peers into my eyes, “Are you alright? Do you need anything?”

I shake my head, “No I'm fine. I've dealt with it.”

She gives me a very skeptical look, “Are you sure?”

I turn away from her, looking out of the window. “I’m as fine as I am going to get until I manage to escape this hell.”

“Oh Gigi,” Aunt Ludovica sighs sadly, “I wish I could do more to help you.”

I squeeze her hand reassuringly, “madrina, you are the only bright spot in this darkness. I don't know what I would do without you. You are already helping me. I know Father Lorenzo will have some answers.”

“I hope so.” My aunt squeezes my hand back.
