Rex

Whenhewalkedoutof the clinic and mounted his bike, Rex slipped his sunglasses on his face. As he pulled his hair back into a manbun, he glanced around and saw that Pathfinder parked a block down the road, facing him. Doing his best to pretend he didn’t notice anything, he started his bike and checked for traffic, before he pulled away from the curb and did a U-turn. When he saw in his mirror that the Pathfinder began to follow, he barked out a curse and put on the speed. It was not a coincidence. He was being followed. He needed to have that talk with Pike.

Rex attempted to make turns to try to lose them, but it was almost as if they knew where he was going. Scrapping the decision to go to Pike’s house, Rex headed for the compound. He needed to speak with their tech genius and have Keys check his bike for tracking devices.

Giving up trying to lose them, almost hoping the Pathfinder would follow him into the compound, but knowing they probably wouldn’t, Rex turned right on the street that ran along the side of the Hen House. Three blocks down, he turned onto the street that held the compound and watched in his mirror. The Pathfinder slowed to a stop at the entrance, and the window came down halfway.

Rex pulled off to the side and got off his bike quickly. Turning, he reached for his gun, not sure what they planned to do. He had just pulled his gun from the holster in his cut when the lens of a camera poked out. A few moments later, the window rolled up, and the Pathfinder took off.

As he returned his gun to his holster, Rex was still staring at the entrance to the compound when he heard Keys ask, “What the fuck was that?”

Rex swung his gaze to Keys and saw Ranger and Top standing with him. He made eye contact with Top. “That’s the Pathfinder that was following me this morning.”

“Wait.” Keys held up a hand and asked, “What? You’re being followed?”

After giving a nod, Rex explained what had happened that morning as well as the recent events, once he left the clinic. Keys listened intently, then he asked Rex to move his bike to the parking lot and said he’d be right back.

Rex moved his bike, and while they waited for Keys to return, members from both the Howlers and the Claws began to gather in the lot around him.

When Keys came out of the clubhouse, he had a small handheld device with a small antenna, a red light, and a small digital screen on it. They silently watched as Keys approached Rex’s bike and slowly ran the device along it, keeping a few inches of distance. Nothing happened.

Keys glanced over at Rex and shook his head. “No tracking device. Let me see your phone.”

Rex handed over his phone, Keys began to do his thing. “Did you run that plate I gave to Axle yesterday?”

Keys nodded. “It was reported stolen, so no luck there.” As he hunched over the phone, his longish hair falling forward to shield his face from view, the members around him began discussing the situation.

“I noticed the same vehicle behind me twice yesterday,” Shortcake said.

“Me too,” Rock added with a nod.

“I might have, too,” Pumps admitted. “I thought it was just two vehicles that looked alike.”

Axle sighed. “We’re going to have to be more vigilant.”

Crush nodded and crossed her arms over her chest. “Maybe we need to stay in pairs until—”

“There is no way in hell I’m bringing one of you bastards to Doc’s house with me tonight,” Rex blurted and winced when he realized he said it louder than was necessary.

It felt like every eye in the crowd landed on him, but it was Score who opened his damn mouth and had something to say. “Doc, huh?” He stepped closer and took a sniff before he nodded and chuckled. “Feeling ill, Rex?”

“Fuck off,” Rex grumbled.

“Did she run your insurance? Check your shot record to make sure you’re up to date on your—”

Top’s hand covered Score’s mouth, cutting off his bullshit. Too bad Top didn’t have twelve more hands, because Score wasn’t the only one who had something to say.

“Flea bath?” Ranger grinned and quickly stepped away because he wasn’t a stupid man.

“Don’t let her near your balls,” Trip uttered.

“Do you get a biscuit if you’re a good boy?” Rex was shocked when those words came out of Dragon’s mouth as a knowing grin appeared on his face.

“If he shows up with a cone,” Skull began but he couldn’t finish because he was cackling too loudly.

“Your phone is good. No tracking apps besides ours,” Keys told him through a grin.

After snatching his phone from Keys’s outstretched hand, Rex mounted his bike and started it, drowning out the rest of the dumbasses. He ignored the laughing assholes and the Claws as he rode out of the parking lot.
