He didn’t know how the Pathfinder was keeping track of him, but listening to the shit from his club brothers wasn’t going to help him figure it out. He’d just keep his eyes open and be on alert.

Jolene

When Jolene finished helping her last patient, she quickly notated the chart and said goodbye to the rest of the staff. She was exhausted and wanted to get in a hot shower before Rex showed up at her place.

The drive to her house was a blur. Her body was on autopilot. When she pulled into her driveway and noticed Rex’s truck parked at the curb, Jolene worried she’d be too exhausted to make their night anything but laid back. She’d see where the night took them.

Their relationship was so new that she didn’t want to already be at the point of a movie and crashing out, but they were both near forty, and life was what it was. Energy was a hot commodity, but it was also fleeting.

After making her way into the house, she dropped her stuff on the table next to her front door and bent down to greet Beast. He was happy to see her, his body shaking with his excitement.

Scratching behind his ears, she softly uttered, “How was my little beast today? Did you have a good time with Mama Hen and Maxie? I bet you did.”

“What I would give to have you touch me like that,” Rex said in his sultry, deep voice from across the room.

She glanced up and found him leaning against the doorjamb to her kitchen with both his arms and ankles crossed. His long gray and blond hair was pulled up in a manbun, making him look ten years younger than he was. Instead of a tee like he had been wearing earlier in the day, he was wearing a charcoal gray, long-sleeved Henley under his cut, along with a pair of dark blue jeans that fit the man too damn well. Once again, his feet were bare, topping off the sexy package he presented.

“If you’re a good boy,” she said and gave him a smile as she straightened and kicked off her shoes.

He winked at her. “I tried to feed Beast, but he won’t come in the kitchen.”

“I think he’s scared of you,” she replied. “The night you brought me home and put me to bed, I found him hiding under a bed the next morning.”

“Why? I’ve never hurt him. I wouldn’t.” His brows pulled together in concern.

She snorted a laugh. “Because you’re the bigger dog.”

His eyes narrowed for a moment, then he smiled and mumbled, “Ruff.”

As she crossed the room and approached him, she asked, “Did you bring the pizza, Fido? I’m hungry.”

Rex unfolded his arms and wrapped them around her, pulling her close. “So am I,” he replied, his tone making it clear what he wanted to eat. “And yes, the pizza is on the counter. It should still be hot. Sit down and get comfortable. I’ll bring it to you.”

“I’m supposed to be giving the orders.”

Staring down at her with his ice-blue eyes sparking fire, he replied, “If you want to forgo dinner and head right to the bedroom, you can give all the orders you want.”

Her stomach took that moment to growl, telling her his suggestion was not an option.

After he took her empty plate from her hand and brought their dishes to the kitchen, Rex returned to the room right as she lifted a hand to rub at her right shoulder. His brows pulled together, and he moved behind her couch in the center of the room. Pushing her hands away, his large, strong hands massaged out the knots in her upper back and shoulders. Jolene closed her eyes and let out a moan as he worked his magic.

When his fingers moved up to her neck, she dropped her head forward, took deep breaths, and released them slowly. All of her stress and tension eased out of her.

He worked his way over her scalp and back down her neck before taking hold of both of her shoulders. As his massage gentled, his lips and tongue caressed the side of her neck, making a different type of tension work its way through her body.

“Can’t have you stressed, Doc,” he whispered near her ear. “Is that better?”

“Mmhmm,” she mumbled before she turned her head and kissed his lips. When she pulled back and looked into his eyes, the sexual desires in her warred with the part of her that just wanted to cuddle up with him and do nothing. “You okay with watching a movie or something for a while? I just want to relish this relaxation.”

He smiled and winked at her, before he rounded the couch and sat down as close as he could get, while also grabbing her television remote from the coffee table. Sliding his arm around her shoulders, he pulled her against him.

Jolene cuddled into his side and sighed. For the next few hours, they didn’t say much to each other. It was nice that they could justbewithout anyone feeling awkward. Every once in a while, his fingers would distractedly play with her hair or he would turn his head and kiss her temple, but that was it. It waseasy.

Every moment she spent with him, she learned more about the gruff, rough biker and liked it all.

Not only was he a good father and a good friend, but he was also thoughtful and kind. He worried about her dog not taking to him right away. He ran her lunch, dropping everything to do so. He was open-minded and gave over his complete trust in the bedroom. Rex was exactly the type of man she would have picked for herself if she had made a checklist.

For fuck’s sake, he could cook and made grocery store runs. If he made a decent cup of coffee, she’d be hard pressed not to propose to the man on the spot.
