Doc glanced over at Nevaeh and sighed. “Your dad is being… stubborn.”

Nevaeh giggled. “Yeah. Sounds like Dad.”

Rex

Rexwasnothappyabout spending the previous night without Doc in bed with him. He wasn’t allowing that to happen again. Sure, she was the one in charge when it came to playtime, but he had a say in their relationship, and he was putting his foot down on that.

“What do you need?” Trip asked as he stepped into Rex’s room through the open door.

“I need you to go to my house and install temporary support bars from my bed to my bathroom, so Doc will allow me to go home.”

Trip grinned. “Support bars? Aren’t you a bit young for that, my man?”

Rex flipped him off. “She’s worried about me re-injuring myself when she’s at work. Just do it, okay?”

Trip carefully patted Rex on his shoulder as Rex forced himself to his feet. “You got it, Brother.”

Rex handed Trip his house keys, even though he knew Trip could get in if he wanted to without them.

“Give me a few hours, and it will be done.”

Once Trip was gone, Rex shuffled his way to the bathroom and took care of business. His shifter healing had finally kicked in. The split on his lip quickly healed overnight, and he noticed that the stitched areas were closing a lot faster than they had been.

As soon as he noticed that, he tried to find his wolf inside him. There was a very vague hint of him, as if seeing a shadow through the fog, but it was there. Every once in a while, a phantom growl or whimper sounded inside of him, letting him know his wolf was returning.

Relief coursed through him at the knowledge. His wolf was a part of his soul. He needed the wolf to balance him.

He was able to walk around in small doses, but it still hurt like a bitch. Doc even gave him the go-ahead to shower.

Nevaeh had ditched him for the puppy, but he wasn’t mad about it. She had called last night and convinced him to let her and Doc have some girl time. She told him that they were hanging at Doc’s with Beast and the new puppy, and it would do him some good to stay at the compound and get some rest. He stayed at the compound, but he sent prospects to keep an eye on Doc’s place.Former Professional Badassor not, she was his soul, and he wanted her protected.

When Doc had checked in on him that morning, she told him that she and Nevaeh had played with the puppies and watched movies. Apparently, Beast loved the new puppy and Nevaeh. He wouldn’t admit that he was a bit jealous Nevaeh got the dog’s acceptance so quickly. He was glad they were bonding. It meant the world to him that his two favorite women liked each other.

But they had their girls’ night. He wanted Doc back in his bed or hers that night. He wasn’t particular, but he was going to have his house prepared, just in case, because sleeping without her was hell. Rex had gotten used to having her up against him, which made sleeping without her hell. Tossing and turning all night caused his wounds to ache. When he had finally woken up, he felt as if he hadn’t slept at all.

Hours later, he received a text from Trip.

TRIP : Temp bars from bedroom to bathroom door. Permanent bars installed in shower. Thank me later.

REX : Dragon sent me an interesting picture that involved you and Rope. Don’t make me send it to Darlin’

He pulled the picture up and prepared to send it to Darlin’. Then Rex thought about having Doc in his shower and having multiple ways to obtain leverage. Grinning, he deleted the draft and put his phone away.

For the first time that Rex could remember, the Howlers MC was having church in a room that wasn’t their actual church room. Axle had insisted they have church in the cafeteria with the doors closed, instead of forcing Rex to climb the stairs to the second floor, especially after he had huffed and puffed his way down a set already.

Rex appreciated the concern for his mobility issues, but it grated on his nerves that he needed the concession. Shoving down the hit to his ego, Rex slowly shuffled into the cafeteria, with Top and Score flanking him. The two of them had watched him, ready to act if he needed them to since the moment he stepped out of his room. He knew they were just trying to help, but fuck, he was a grown man.

In the center of the room, someone had pushed rectangular tables together to create one long table like they had in the church room. Rex took his usual seat between Rebel and Siren.

Once Top and Score took their seats, Axle pounded his fist on the table from where he sat on the end. “Rex asked for a quick meeting, so I’m giving him the floor.”

Rex cleared his throat and nodded. “I want to claim Doc at the table.”

Many of his brothers grinned, some hooted and hollered, but every single one of them made sure he knew how the vote would go.

Bullet was the one to speak. “She’s got my vote. Hell, I think I like her more than I like you, Rex.”
