“You’re not going to stop, are you?”

“Probably not.”

“Fucker.” Whiskey ended the call.

Arbor chuckled. His gut was still telling him something had been off about the scene at the office, but he felt much better knowing he wasn’t alone in it. His brothers had their backs, and he was grateful.

Sipping a cup of coffee on the deck the next morning, Arbor held the phone to his ear and listened as IQ relayed everything he had learned about Kitten’s ex’s movements. Apparently, the asshole had made stops in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Michigan. The last charge on his credit card was from last night in the Detroit area, and it was for two nights at a hotel.

“Does he have a history in that area?” Arbor asked. “Is this a routine visit?”

IQ sighed. “Not that I can tell. I think he’s following her trail. It’s not her fault. She couldn’t possibly know how to hide from someone with resources. I do think it’s promising that he’s the one coming and not the police. Seems to me that he wants to handle it. I couldn’t find any record of a police report for the car fire, so I’d bet he made some shit up to explain it away… or his daddy’s money did.”

“Daddy’s money?”

“She didn’t tell you?” IQ sighed again. “He’s the son of a former state congressman who was disgraced by a sexual assault scandal. Well… it started with the SA scandal, but then they found out that he was doing other shady shit. The man has been keeping a low profile. His son is much the same. He has some arrests, but charges always magically disappear. He’s been keeping a low profile like Daddy since the dad’s shit exploded. I also found a few instances where he took off for months at a time and didn’t let anyone know where he was. First time was when he was nineteen. Second time was when he was twenty-three. Last time was three years ago. That time he was gone for almost a year.”

“So, if he disappeared…”

“They would probably assume he wanted to.”

Arbor sipped his coffee as he processed what IQ was telling him. “If he comes up here, I’m taking him out.”

“Brother, when he gets here,we’llmake his disappearance permanent.”

His lion was prowling and snarling inside of him at the thought of anyone else killing the asshole. If Kitten couldn’t do it herself, it was his job, and it was a job he’d gladly do.

NINETEEN

MEGAN

WhenKeysandIQfirst showed up and began installing the security system at the treehouse, she didn’t think anything of it. It wasn’t until Keys held his hand out to her and uttered, “Phone,” that she became suspicious.

“Why?”

Keys glanced over at Arbor, who was spotting IQ while he was on the ladder installing a camera to catch anyone on the deck through the sliding glass door. “You didn’t tell her?”

“Tell me what?”

Arbor didn’t even look their way. “Nope. Sorry.”

“Tell me what,” she repeated.

“Brother, she’s your mate,” Keys said, still staring at Arbor. “It’s your job to tell her.”

Megan stomped her foot and huffed. “Tell. Me. What.”

All three males turned and looked at her, but she didn’t care. There was something they weren’t telling her, and she wanted to know what it was.

“Kitten,” Arbor began, “we put tracking apps on all the members’ phones.”

She eyed him curiously. “I’m not a member.”

“No, but you’re family,” Keys said. “Family gets ‘em, too.”

“Why?”

“In case something happens and we need to find you,” Arbor told her, still spotting IQ who had returned his attention to the camera.
