“I’m not going to kill you, but they are.” He glanced behind him to see Whiskey shift into his black panther form and Stallion shift into his wolf form. Arbor chuckled as Mo screamed again. Then he backed out of the way and let his brothers handle it.

TWENTY-FOUR

MEGAN

AsshepacedArbor’sroom at the compound, Megan tried to think about it, but every time she closed her eyes, she saw Joshua on the floor of the office with his face smashed in. She didn’t see it because she felt bad about it. She didn’t. The world was a better place without him in it. She had a good idea about what he planned to do to her if he would have been successful in hiding until she arrived.

No, she didn’t see his face because she felt bad about killing him. She saw his face because her brain was trying to convince her he was really dead.

Megan didn’t know how the club was going to cover everything up and keep the cops off their backs, but she didn’t care. It was better if she didn’t know. And even if they weren’t successful, she’d stand with the Howlers and face whatever came at them. She wouldn’t run. She wouldn’t leave Arbor.

Her breath came out of her in a whoosh as she realized just how sure she was of that. Only a week and a half ago, she was sure she’d live the rest of her life on the run. With Arbor in her life, she couldn’t live that way, not unless he was going with her. The problem with both of them running was that he would have to give up his family, and she wouldn’t allow him to do that for her.

So she’d stay. She’d stay and face whatever life threw at them.

The door to the room swung open, and Arbor stepped in. Megan rushed over and checked him out, running her hands and her gaze all over him. If he had one more scratch on him, she was going to lose her mind.

“I’m fine, Kitten.” He took her hands in his and lifted them. After pressing kisses to each palm, he smiled down at her. “I’m fine.”

“You’re not hurt?” She just needed him to say it again.

“Well, the gunshot wound is still healing, but other than that, I’m fine.”

She glared at him. “I knew you weren’t healed enough to go!” Using their interlaced fingers, she yanked him toward the bed. “Lay down.”

“Kitten.”

“No.” She let go of his hands and pointed at the mattress. “Lay down.”

The man had the nerve to chuckle.

“So help me, whatever god that is listening, if you don’t lay down in that bed, I will—”

Arbor pressed his lips to hers and kissed her senseless. When he finally pulled back, he whispered, “I love you, Kitten.”

She sighed. “I love you, too, Arbor. I just… Will you please lay down?”

He chuckled again. “Yes, I’ll lay down and let you nurse me. Did you bring your lingerie?”

Megan rolled her eyes as Arbor climbed back into bed.

Two weeks later, Megan was getting ready for her bachelorette party. Okay, really, it was just her getting together with a few of the women she had met in town. They planned on having drinks at the clubhouse and playing ridiculous games, most probably involving some kind of phallic toy. Because what kind of bachelorette party would it be if they didn’t?

A few of the guys would be there to set up for tomorrow, really to guard the females, but she’d pretend she didn’t know that’s why they were there. If it made Arbor feel better, that was what was important.

They would have a few hours before the men returned from the burlesque club in town. Arbor tried to talk the men out of it, but they were insistent, and Megan was, too. He needed the guy time. Since the office incident, he hadn’t left her side unless Bruce had work for him to do. While she loved spending time with him, she knew it would do them good to have time apart as well… even if it was only for a few hours.

According to the forged paperwork, the two of them were already married, and she was officially Molly ‘Kitten’ Dawson. In her head, she was still Megan, but no one called her that, anyway. All the men started calling her Kitten the day she got her property patch, and the rest of the town just followed suit. Even Bruce took to referring to her that way.

Even though they were married according to the state, Arbor insisted they at least have a little ceremony. That was why they would be saying their vows in the bar area of the clubhouse the next day, with Rebar officiating. Whiskey insisted on walking her down the aisle.

Arbor walked up behind her in the bathroom of their cabin at the compound and wrapped his arms around her waist. He gave her mating mark a lick and asked, “Are you sure you don’t want me to just stay here and,” he nipped her earlobe, “find other ways to spend our evening?”

Megan bit her lip to stop from moaning. “You need to hang with the guys. We can do that later.”

He sighed. “Fine.” Then he smacked her ass and headed out of the room. “Love you, Kitten.”

“Love you, too,” she called back as she went back to applying her makeup.
