“Will do. Give the kids love for me.”

“You got it.”

Brute ended the call, and Trick pocketed the phone. He knew it wasn’t the last time she’d get that kind of response from his family, but he didn’t fucking like it, and his brain was spiraling, trying to figure out a way to head that off.

Stiletto’s arms slid around his torso, and her chin settled on his shoulder. “It’s okay, Trick.”

“It’s not.”

“Yes, it is. I did that.”

“Doesn’t matter. I’m not going to be okay with that shit.”

She hugged him tight and whispered, “I love you.”

He turned his head and pressed a kiss to her temple. “I love you, too.”

Placing his hands over hers at his chest, he breathed in her scent and let it calm his irritation. His bear was grumbling and huffing inside of him, which Trick totally understood. It took a while, but eventually, Stiletto was able to settle his anger.

Finally calmer, he asked, “Want to do some night surveillance?”

“Yes,” she said immediately, sounding excited.

“We need to dress dark.”

“Duh,” she uttered and stood.

Before he could stand and turn around, she was in the cabin, looking for clothes.

Grinning and shaking his head, he joined her.

Chapter Twenty-Two

Trick

Fordays, theydiscussedwhat they should do and how they should go about it. Their goal was to find a way to take out the entire academy, but both of them agreed it might not be possible, and they would just do what they could. They settled on taking the armory first, obtaining the explosives they needed from there, and using them to make the academy inoperable for the time being. Was it a shit plan? Probably. Were they going to attempt it, anyway? Yes.

There was just one little problem.

As Trick loaded up the van, Stiletto followed him and was insistent they fight out her ridiculous plan of taking lead. There was no way he was putting her in front. She may have been trained, but she was still human. He was stronge, faster, and was a hell of a lot harder to kill. So, no, he wasn’t giving in to her.

“I thought you trusted me!”

Trick stopped dead in his tracks and slammed the rear doors of the van closed. He turned his head and glared at her. How fucking dare she do thisagain! As the man in him was livid, the bear was huffing and pushing him to calm down.

“You keep saying you do, but it’s obvious you don’t trust me to handle this!”

Trick took one step toward her, then another. As she backed up and around the side of the van, he followed her one step at a time. Halfway down the side of the van, he boxed her in against it with his arms and lowered his head so he was looking her in the eye.

Through harsh, angry breaths, he bit out, “Don’t.”

He watched as she swallowed hard. If he wasn’t so fucking angry, the fact that she was scared might have been able to reach him, but he had been pushed too far to be reasonable.

“This. Has. Nothing. To. Do. With. Trust.” He fisted his hands against the van. “I’m stronger than you, and not just because I’m twice your size and a damn man. I’m faster than you, and not just because I’m taller than you and have a longer stride. I heal faster and am harder to kill. Now, tell me why thefuckthat is, Stiletto.”

She sighed, and her gaze shifted to something over his shoulder. “You’re a shifter.”

“Exactly. And this… this ismyfucking mission. If you can’t agree to fucking follow my lead, then you can stay at this damn cabin, and I’ll go it alone. What’s it going to be?”
