That makes me angry. I need to get your attention before it’s too late.

You’ll have no other choice but to see the truth — that it’s you andme. Not you and that loser.

All my love,

Your one and only

(Even if you still don’t realize it yet. You will.)

ChapterSeven

Rita turned off her alarm then stretched. The guys would be back from their morning hunting expedition soon. They’d left for the woods around the crack of dawn.

The thought sent a shudder down her spine. After what Mateo pulled at the pool the night before, she couldn’t imagine what he might do when given a gun. With any luck, he’d slept through his alarm, too hungover to wake with the sun and keeping everyone else safe.

If he did anything to hurt Grayson, she couldn’t guarantee his safety.

She pulled out her phone to send him a quick text in hopes he would respond quickly and ease her mind.

Then she saw the screen. No service. Right.

How could such a popular destination not have cell coverage? It wasn’t safe, not way out in the middle of the woods like they were. Sure, each room had a phone. But how were people supposed to keep up with each other when they weren’t in their quarters? It was like living in the dark ages. Ridiculous, especially considering how much money Grayson had fronted for the weekend.

Everything was probably fine. If anything had gone wrong, the hotel staff surely would’ve let her know.

That was the thought she focused on — first when she got out of bed, next as she ate a small snack to hopefully stave off the lingering morning sickness, again during her shower, then finally while choosing a cute romper that was perfect for breakfast at the restaurant downstairs.

All the wedding guests had to be even more tired than her. While she’d gone to bed early, always tired these days, most everyone else had gone bowling then ice skating out in the restored barn after swimming.

She couldn’t wait to go to the spa with Ari, Olivia, and Maya after lunch. They would sip green drinks, eat healthy snacks, and get pampered. Grayson had insisted on paying for the most expensive package for the event. They’d be in the spa for three to four hours.

Sounded heavenly. And best of all, no Mateo or Javier. It would be a miracle if Javi still had a job at her bar and grill after the weekend was over. She’d never seen this side of him and didn’t ever want it appearing at her business.

The steam of the shower had helped relax her worried thoughts. She didn’t need to think about her restaurant. It was in good hands while she was away. She also didn’t have to be concerned about the rest of the weekend. Grayson had told off Mateo in front of everyone. If he was smart, he’d be on his best behavior for the next two days.

By the time Rita was finishing her makeup — not too much since she’d be going to the spa soon — Grayson returned from hunting. He had twigs in his hair and dirt on his pants.

She blew him a kiss, not wanting to dirty her fresh clothes. “How did everything go?”

“It was fun, though nobody got anything.”

“That sounds like a win. Mateo played nice?”

Grayson muttered under his breath. “The dip wad didn’t even show up.”

“Probably too hungover.”

“I’m ready to rake him over hot coals. Last night, he was so drunk while bowling he nearly took out a window.”

“Just be glad he wasn’t able to cause any problems this morning with a gun.”

“He’s a groomsman. It’s his job to be at everything.”

Rita squeezed his shoulder, careful not to touch any dirt. “You can always find a replacement. Damon would be a lot more help than Mateo.”

“I hardly know the guy.”

“But I do. You’re going to love having them across the street — they’re the best of friends and neighbors. He’d do anything for you. Think about it.”
