Page 12 of Never Letting Go

Grayson kissed her cheek, careful not to touch her with his dirty clothes. “I will. I trust your judgment.”

“Mind if I head down for breakfast while you shower? I’m starving.”

“Go ahead. The last thing I want to do is get between you and food.” He gave her a playful wink.

“I’m not usually like this, always stuffing my face.”

“You’re eating for two. I’d be a jerk to think badly of you.”

“At least you’re nothing like your cousins.” She managed to give him a kiss without getting dirty. “See you soon.”

“I can’t wait.”

She hurried downstairs to the continental breakfast where she filled her plate high with food. If she wasn’t pregnant, she’d be humiliated. But now she was constantly ravenous and didn’t care what anyone thought.

Her parents were sitting nearby, but she managed to skirt around them unnoticed. They would certainly have something to say about how much she planned to eat.

Maya and Olivia were at a table with some empty chairs, so she joined them.

“How’d you sleep?” Olivia asked.

“Great, but I’m still tired. I guess that comes with the territory.” She rubbed her belly.

“I’ve heard it gets better,” Maya said.

“Me too.” Rita picked up her fork. “But I’m starting to wonder how true that is.”

“Are you up for the day’s events?” Olivia asked.

“Definitely.” Her fatigue lifted at the thought of the gender reveal celebration coming up after breakfast. “I can’t wait to find out if I’m having a boy or a girl!”

“What do you think it is?” Maya asked. “Have you read up on all the old wives’ tales?”

Rita shook her head. “Those don’t mean anything. I—”

The hairs on the back of her neck stood on end. Goose bumps formed on her arms. She whipped her head around, but like last night she was in the busy restaurant and was the bride. It would probably be weird if someonewasn’tlooking her way.

“Everything okay?” Maya asked.

“It’s nothing.”

“It doesn’t seem like nothing.”

Rita sighed. “I keep getting the feeling that someone’s watching me. But everyone is here for my wedding, so obviously people are paying attention to me. What I really need is our spa afternoon.”

“We all do,” Olivia said. “I’ve been looking forward to it since you told us about it.”

Maya frowned. “Hopefully Mateo isn’t up to more antics. Maybe that’s what has you on edge.”

She had a point. Rita was about ready to kick out both Mateo and Javier, but Grayson had already made himself clear. They could, and would, be replaced if they didn’t get their acts together. She glanced around the room for them. Javi was at a table, laughing with some of his relatives.

“Have you seen Mateo today?” Rita asked. “Apparently he didn’t make it to the hunting party this morning.”

“Probably for the best.” Maya finished off a pastry. “We’d all be in danger with him anywhere near weapons.”

Olivia choked on orange juice. “That’s a scary thought.”

“I’m sure he’s just hungover,” Maya said. “And I hope it’s a nasty one after what he pulled at the pool last night.”
