“He did seem pissed.” Kyle chuckles.

“The plan worked.” I reply and shrug as if it’s just another day at the office.

He grins and I note a text flash up on his phone that he quickly swipes away.

“Who was that?”

He sighs, leaning back in his seat.

“Allegra’s friend.”

“I thought you found your one.” I tease him and he rolls his eyes.

“It’s only a bit of fun.”

“So, she’s not arriving this weekend as planned.”

“I didn’t say that.”

“Then what?”

“Women like Cecilia like to grip a man by the balls. They want to bring him in line and start calling the shots, regardless of the reasons that attracted them in the first place.”

“Now I get it.” I roll my eyes.

“So, you’re teaching her who’s in control?”

“Of course. No woman is going to make me jump. She needs to learn how I operate.”

“Good luck with that.”

He shrugs. “It’s fun playing the game, but only if I’m assured of winning.”

“And they call me an asshole.” It makes me laugh and I picture Allegra frantically making herself look respectable and know where he’s coming from. She told me not to mess her up, but I went there anyway, and she loved every fucking minute of it. I understand Kyle, because playing the game is what we thrive on. How long that game lasts is up to us because there is nowhere to hide in the world if we want something and right now, what I want the most is the fucker threatening my woman.

We arriveat Killian’s apartment and head for the underground parking lot. We have a pass and security knows we are coming in advance with a protected password that changes every visit. Once again, it reminds me of the lengths we go to keep alive, and I’m weary of it.

Kyle joins me in the private elevator to Kill’s penthouse and he will meet with Saint, my brother’s right-hand man. They swap intelligence and work together. We are a close-knit team and trust one another with our lives.

The door opens and Saint is waiting with a nod of respect.

“Mr. Vieri. Your brother is waiting on the terrace.”

“Thanks.”

I leave them to disappear and head up the staircase toward the top of the building, which enjoys one of the finest views in New York.

I step into the sunshine and see Kill enjoying breakfast, overlooking the skyline along with Purity, his wife. She smiles happily when she sees me and stands, heading toward me and kissing me three times.

“It’s good to see you, Shade.”

I catch Kill’s expression and smirk because I have never met anyone so overprotective in my life as he is with her. Even family get the death stare when she transfers her attention to them and I play up to it by saying, “You are a vision, Purity. The sun is no comparison to such a beauty.”

“Sit the fuck down.” Kill growls and shakes his head as I drop her a wink and shrug out of my jacket, rolling up my sleeves to enjoy the warm sunshine.

Purity remains standing and heads to her husband’s side, dropping a light kiss on his lips before saying in her sweet voice, “I must go. I have a charity event to attend before we leave.”
