“Tonight is our night, but first we eat with friends.” He whispers against my lips and my heart leaps, knowing I’ll see Cecilia again, even for a short time. I have missed her so much and we have a lot to talk about and so I smile softly and whisper, “Thanks, Shade.”

“You’re welcome, princess.”

His mouth dusts against mine with slow temptation and I’m in no hurry to finish and intend on savoring every breath shared between us. I could kiss him all night which is a distinct possibility, and as the elevator arrives at our destination, I am sad that he pulls away.

“Come.” He takes my hand, and we head into the apartment that makes me feel like a queen. It is so decadent, so palatial and I’m pinching myself that I am caught up in the best time of my life and also the worst.

We shed the leathers and, I pity whoever has the task of cleaning them because they reek of sex and deprivation.

We walk naked into the huge bathroom and Shade opens the faucet on the shower and pulls me under it with him, the power shower washing our sins away as he fills his hand with soap and gently rubs my heated skin.

“You are so beautiful.” His eyes feast on my body and he gently touches the bruise on my breast.

“I love seeing my mark on you. I think we should make it permanent.”

“What are you talking about?” I giggle as he strokes the skin reverently, and smirks. “I’ll arrange a tattoo. Property of Shade.”

“Fucking idiot.” I giggle in the hope he is kidding me and as he traces a circle around my breast, he grins. “It will resemble a stamp, and it will be stamped over every inch of your skin. In red. I’ll get someone on it tomorrow.”

“You will not.” I really hope the determination in his eye is a figment of my imagination because the fuck I’m letting him brand my body with a freaking name stamp. Hell no.

He pushes me up against the wall of the shower and his expression should terrify me, but it just excites me more as he growls, “I will do what the fuck I like with your body because I own it now.”

“Asshole.” I attempt to push him away, but his mouth lands on mine with a ferocious passion as he leaves me in no doubt of his desire for me. As he grips my hair hard, he nails me to the shower wall as if to prove a point, and I’m more than happy to let him. Shade is one big battle cry wrapped in deliciously dark behavior and I wouldn’t change a thing.

CHAPTER42

SHADE

Istare with interest at Allegra’s friend as they sit gossiping in the corner, apparently not even stopping to take in air. The sound of their excited chatter fills the room, and Kyle hands me a bourbon and shakes his head.

“Is that normal?” he jerks his thumb as Cecilia squeals, and I shrug. “I guess. I bet a hundred they’re talking about sex.”

He reaches into his wallet and pulls out the bill and hands it to me with a resigned, “I’m not even going to attempt to deny it.”

It makes me laugh as I pocket the cash and lower my voice.

“Have you heard from Freddie?”

“He’s waiting at the warehouse on your return.”

“Fuck! I’ve got a hard on.”

He screws up his face in disgust. “Spare me your perversions and tell me the plan.”

“We head back and persuade him to talk. Then prepare for an evening none of us will forget in a hurry.”

Kyle nods, his eyes gleaming with danger. He loves this shit more than me and we make a good team. Freddie will be interrogated and every delicious secret he is hiding will be mine by the end of it.

“And Jefferson?” I ask casually.

“Has bought a ticket.”

It makes me chuckle. “He can try to disguise his smug face, but I could pick him out in a room with no light. He’s a dead man walking.”

Kyle nods, in no doubt of our success. Yes, this masquerade is the perfect opportunity to remove him from our lives. To rid the Dark Lords of a fanatic and rid Allegra of any threat facing her.
