As he spoke, my stomach rumbled a little. I realized we hadn’t eaten lunch and it was getting late. Parker grinned at the sound. “Hungry?”

I nodded. “Starved.”

“I know an excellent burger place not far from here. My treat.”

“That sounds amazing. And hey, keep that website up. Maybe we can reveal more deep, dark secrets over fries.”

Parker grinned. “Whatever you say, honey.”

Chapter Nine

Parker

OnMonday,Iwasstill glowing from the weekend with Travis. We seemed so in sync and he was even tolerating my over-the-top wedding ideas with grace, which we’d spent the weekend discussing, in between the getting-to-know-you questions and furniture building. I walked into work feeling like a different man, more energized than I had been in weeks, greeting Leigh with a quick hello before dropping my messenger bag in my office and going back to her desk to chat, as we usually did.

“How was your weekend?” I asked.

She raised her eyebrows and looked up at me before taking a sip of her giant coffee. “My dog got sick, and I spent the weekend cleaning up the mess.”

“Oh, shit. I hope she’s okay.”

Leigh nodded. “She’llbe fine.I’mexhausted.” She took another sip of her coffee. “How about you? Spend another weekend holed up with yet another guy from Fyre?”

Shame burned hot through me and my cheeks warmed. It wouldn’t have been the first time I’d stayed in bed for forty-eight hours with the same guy, only emerging to eat or use the bathroom. “Yes and no.”

“Oh?” She leaned forward with interest, a smirk on her face. “Tell me all about him.”

“His name is Travis. He’s my age, and he’s a park ranger.”

“Oh my God, does he have a beard?Pleasetell me he has a beard.”

I shook my head. “No beard, but otherwise he looks exactly like you’d expect a young, sexy park ranger to look.”

She laughed. “Nice. Now what did you mean by ‘yes and no’?”

I glanced around to be sure nobody was listening to us and dropped my voice to a low murmur. “We didn’t sleep together.”

Her eyebrows shot up. “Shutup. Why not?”

“It just… didn’t seem right. We’re taking things slow in that department. No hurry. You know?”

“What have you done with my Parker? ‘Taking things slow’? Usually you’ve loved ’em and left ’em by now. In and out. Fuck and flee. How’s this one different?”

I couldn’t stop the cocky grin from spreading over my face. “I proposed, and he said yes. We’re getting married.”

Leigh started coughing as if she was choking on her coffee. “Are youserious?”

“I am.”

She exhaled sharply. “I have several questions.”

“Go for it,” I said with a laugh.

“Oh my God,” she repeated. “How did you meet? Fyre? How long have you known this guy? And what in God’s name possessed you to getmarried?”

“We’ve known each other a long time and recently reconnected, yes, on Fyre. And I don’t know. It just sounded like a good idea.”

She laughed weakly and rubbed her face with one hand. “Oh my God.”
