"For an ultrasound. I know what we're having."
Both Charlotte’s and Nick's eyes go wide.
"What are we having, Angel?" he whispers.
I stand up and walk to the box. Bella and Alisha are cheering. "You go, girl."
Nick's face shows a stunned expression while Charlotte is hopping impatiently. I hold another t-shirt in front of my belly and give them a teasing smile.
"I will count to three."
"One..."
Nick brushes through his hair while darting his eyes from mine to the shirt.
"Two..."
Charlotte's eyes are on the shirt.
"Three... " I let go of the hem of the shirt, and as it opens, it reveals the text.
Nick turns into a statue as he reads the words. "I'M A BOY."
Charlotte is over the moon. She jumps into the bouncing castle and chants the words, "Baby brother."
"Now, we will be even. We will have two girls and two boys in our house."
Nick hasn't moved. He's still in a squatting position, staring into space.
"It's a boy!" he whispers. "I will have a son?"
"Hey, snap out of it, Brown, and go kiss your woman," Brian shouts. "And remember to name the kid after me."
Everybody laughs, and as Nick walks over, his eyes find mine and our surroundings blur. His hands cup my face, and his thumbs are caressing my cheeks as our breath mingles.
"A boy, I can't believe we're having a boy," he mumbles. We stare into each other’s souls with teary eyes. "Thank you for giving this arrogant, insensitive jerk a chance. You made me the happiest and luckiest man on the planet, Angel. I can't believe that of every man on this planet, you chose me. I can't wait to marry you."
With one hand, I touch his chiseled cheek. "What can I say? You're Simply Irresistible, Nickolas Brown!"
He chuckles and brushes his lips against mine. Then, with his mouth inches from mine, he whispers, "I love being irresistible to you, my angel. And I'll make sure we'll be Simply Irresistible to each other for the rest of our lives."
"Sounds perfect to me," I say, humming. His lips curl into that panty-wetting smile of his.
"So when do you want to get married to this irresistible man?"
