Suddenly, I remember what I wanted to ask her. So as she drinks, I take my chance. "Emma. Can I ask you something?"
She places her glass back on the table. "Sure."
"You don't have to answer right away," I say.
Emma's fingers drum against the glass. "Now you're making me nervous," she says, and she brings the glass to her lips for another sip.
"I'd like you and Charlotte to come with me next weekend to meet my parents."
Emma freezes, and her glass hangs midair. "What?"
