Cole wants to speak, but David stops him by placing the fabric in his mouth and tying it behind his head. My heart cries for my love, but I need to play this with my head, not my heart.

"David? I'm hungry. Could I please get something to eat or drink? "

Like the first time, me asking in a pleading voice gets his immediate attention.

"Yes, you can, my precious." He walks out of Cole's room and locks it by pushing a button on the remote. He places it back in his back pocket and turns to me.

"I'll be right back with a meal." With that said, he travels through a door that leaves this den. The moment the door closes, my head shoots to Cole.

"I'm sorry, but what the hell were you thinking? You can't provoke a psychopath while you're tied up? Do you have a death wish?"

Cole grunts.

"I can't believe he's Jeremy's son."

Cole lets out a sigh, drops his shoulders, and closes his eyes.

"Hey, don't blame yourself. This situation isn't your fault!"

He shrugs.

"Look at me. We're going to get out of here. Samantha needs us."

Saying his daughter's name makes him look up.

"I need to get that bastard to trust me because I need to get out of this room. And to make that happen, I have to make him believe I'm his."

Cole's eye pierces mine while he shakes his head and murmurs.

"I understand you don't like that, but I have to." I stare back into his blue orb. "It's our only chance to get out of here. You trained me and taught me how to defend myself in case something like this would happen. Guess this is showtime."

Cole keeps shaking his head frantically, and trying to free his hands, but it's useless.

"Hey," I plea, getting his attention. "I need to do this, so stop fighting, and let me try to get us back home."

I stop talking when the door opens, and David enters the room with two trays in his hands. "New rule. You’re not allowed to talk to him." He inspects us through narrowed eyes before strolling to the table.

"I have a tagliatelle dish with salmon for you."

"That's kind of you, David."

"Everything for my precious, fiery gem." He walks to the glass wall and scans me from top to bottom. "I have a choice for you. I can either place the plate in your room, where you can eat it, or you can join me at the dining table."

Every fiber in my body tenses at his words, and I bite the inside of my lips to remind myself to stay calm. The idea of being near him without a wall separating us makes me anxious, but it's necessary.

"I'd like to join you, please."

His big smile expands, and he nods while grabbing the remote and unlocks my door. With a hammering heart, I watch him stroll over and opening it. "Come to me, my doll face."

I shuffle towards him with trembling hands, and when I reach him, he forcefully takes hold of my chin. The pressure of his fingers bruising my skin.

"Look at me." When I do, chills run down my spine as a thunderstorm rages in his irises. He lowers his face until it is inches from mine and whispers through clenched teeth. "If I find out you're playing me or trying to pull any stunt, I'll kill him and make you watch. Is that clear?"

I ball my fists to hide the shaking and nod, while he, as if nothing happened, lifts his head and smiles. "Good girl. Now let's eat."

He turns and walks away. I place my trembling hands on my heart and take a deep breath to get control of the raging fear that craves to take over.

Think of why you're doing this. Think of Samantha.
