"He might be a sick bastard, but he sure knows what looks sizzling hot on you."

A small chuckle escapes my lips as I stroll back to him, swaying my hips, and stopping before him.

"Hey, beautiful."

The whirlwind of desire his deep, caring voice stirs inside of me is a welcome distraction from the constant fear rushing through me. To hold on to it, I bend forward and try to show him how much I love him with my lips. Our kiss deepens, feeling the roughness of his dry lips, sucking me into the vacuum of him and me.

"I should have known you were playing me." David's voice echoes through the space, and I jolt back. "Get the fuck out of there!"

As I hurry out, David marches inside and punches Cole right in the ribs. "Fucking bastard! She’s mine."

I tremble hearing Cole's agonizing grunt.

"No. Stop it."

David doesn’t listen and keeps punching. "You just don’t know when to stop taking what is mine, do you! Well, guess what? Tonight it ends."

My ears ring at those words, and when he stares at Cole as if the devil possesses him, I freak out. I can't handle the prospect of him killing Cole. Turning to the table, I snatch two pieces of cutlery. I place one under my dress, and take the other one in my hand.

"Leave him alone," I call out, holding up a knife as I stop in the doorway.

David’s eyes shoot up, and instead of displaying fear, a lustful smile spreads across his face.

"You’ve chosen your fate. I’ll find myself another doll face."

Bile rises in my throat, but I reply with all the feistiness I can accumulate. "I’ll never be yours. You're nothing more than a pathetic piece of shit that feasts on control."

David grins mischievously at me. "Well, Mr. Walker," he says in a sinister tone. "Pay attention because you’ll be the witness of what I do with a disobedient woman." His eyes gleam as he continues to stare at me. "When you're dead, I’m going to lie your corpse in front of him on the floor."

Cole's face contorts, and his eyes flash between David and me. "Please don't kill her. Kill me instead."

"Too late for that. She made her choice." He moves, and when he’s close, he jumps towards me. I shoot sideways, lifting my leg and slamming my foot against his nose.

"Remember, Alex, keep your guard up," Cole shouts. My hands come up while holding the knife clamped in my fist. David recovers from the blow, wipes the blood from his nose, and rises to make his way back to me. His irises are nothing more than pools of death.

"You expect to beat me, sweetheart?"

"Yes, and if not, I’ll die trying."

Suddenly he moves towards me, and that drives me to believe he comes at me. I launch forward to hit him, but it is a trick. Instead of hitting him, his hand takes a vise hold of my wrist. He twists my arm, takes the knife, and pushes me full force away from him. I come to a stop when my head slams against the glass wall.Fuck, that hurt.

"This will be easier than I thought. I'm going to have fun stabbing you until you're unrecognizable."

I shut his sickening words out and solely concentrate on his whereabouts.Breathe and think. From this angle, I can follow his actions through the reflection in the glass.

"Alex, turn," Cole calls out, not able to hide the tremble in his voice.

I reach and grab the knife that I hid between my breasts, using the bra to keep it in place. David is still on the other side, and when he moves my way, Cole screams my name. I accumulate every fiber of strength out of my muscles until the psycho is about two steps away from me before turning and launching myself at him. I let out a primal scream, as David does the same. His eyes are pure evil, and I realize this is my do-or-die moment. I find strength with the mental picture of a sweet fifteen-year-old girl waiting for her father to come home. I also remember the night terrors this man caused. During those early hours, I read articles on how to kill your attacker with a knife or another sharp object. It might sound weird, but after waking up every night with a body filled with panic, this was the only thing that gave me a sense of empowerment.

The moment his right hand grabs my left shoulder, I drive my right arm up and forward, aiming my blade at his throat. My knife points and sinks straight into the flesh at the side of the larynx. I change the angle, and push it in deeper. David’s pupils dilate. With everything in me, I yank it to the side; which generates a nauseating sound of tearing muscles and flesh. The blood-covered knife he's holding falls out from his hand, and the next moment, he drops to the ground.

My head whirls, and my ears ring from the adrenaline pumping through my system, as I stare at the blood pouring out of the gaping hole in his neck. I drop the knife.I killed a man.I'm frozen at the spot until I pick up on a voice shouting my name.

"Alex, sweetheart. Grab the remote control and the keys for the handcuffs. They’re in the pocket of his jeans."

In a blurry state, I stumble over and kneel without looking at the lifeless body and reach inside his pants, pulling out a small key and the controller. When I want to rise, a sudden, sharp, piercing pain shoots through my body. I place my hand on the spot on my side. And when it comes in contact with a warm, wet fluid, I glance down to find my palm covered in something red. Cole fights against his cuffs when he sees my blood-covered hand.

"Okay, baby, keep pressure on the wound."
