I hiss in agony as I press.

"Good, now move my way."

I slide my feet out of the heels, and with labored breathing, I crawl to Cole, protecting my side, while grinding my teeth and holding the key and remote in my fist. Drops of cold sweat run over my face and liquid seeps through my fingers.

"I don’t feel well."

"I know, but you’re almost there."

Tears of pain fall as I finally reach him. How I do it, I don't know, but I find the strength to push myself up on my knees. With a body trembling all over, I open and remove the cuffs. The moment his hands are free, I drop to the ground and put my hand back on the wound. Cole bends and removes the ropes from his legs before dropping to the floor and wrapping an arm around me.

"Alex.'' He places his hand over mine. "Keep pressing on it, baby. I need to grab his phone and call for help."

"Hmm," I murmur.

Cole stumbles to David’s body, and after a quick search, he retrieves the phone. He presses a few buttons while hurrying back. After placing it on the floor, he removes my hand and presses his palm firmly over the stab wound. When a woman’s voice floats through the air, my tears stream in relief.

"9-1-1. What is your emergency?"

"I need a fucking ambulance. My girlfriend has a stab wound, and she’s bleeding."

"Sir, calm down, and tell me where you are."

"I don’t know where we are. Can’t you trace this phone?"

"I need you to remain calm, sir, we're trying to find your location as we speak."

"Don't you tell me to calm down when she's bleeding out. Hurry the fuck up!"

As I listen to him talking to the woman, I fight the urge to close my eyelids. "C-Cole?" I whisper.

His lips tremble, and a muscle in his jaw twitches as he looks over me. "Fuck it. I’m going to get you out of here."

He places my hand back over the wound, to grab the remote control. My emotions skyrocket when the familiar freedom unlocking click resonates through the air. I’ve never been happier to hear that sound. A moment later, I’m scooped off the ground, and my head rests against his firm chest.

"Stay with me, Alex. We’re leaving this hellhole, baby."

When he pushes against the door and stairs appear, my heart hammers even louder. He keeps talking to the woman on the phone, answering questions. My hand is having a hard time keeping pressure on the painful wound.

"God, I’m glad I’m not dying in that ugly basement."

"You’re not dying, period."

"But if I do, it’s in the arms of my gorgeous man."

Cole’s steps become quicker, and moments later, my eyes shut as sudden beams of sunlight hit my retina as we pass a door.

"I believe we're in an abandoned warehouse," Cole says to the woman on the phone. My eyes open to slits, and I glance at the large windows that are on both sides of the open space we're in.

"We’ve got your location. An ambulance and a trauma helicopter are on their way."

"Hurry!"

Little stars appear in my vision, and I blink, trying to make them go away, but they multiply every time I squint. "C-Cole."

He lowers himself onto his knees and places me on a soft surface. He removes my hand and takes over, pressing on the wound.

"Hold on, baby. They’re on their way."
