"And the fact she has one kidney? Does that affect pregnancy? Does she need to rest more or stop working? What is best for her and the babies? Is her level of exhaustion normal?"

"Cole, easy. Let's sit at my desk, and I'll answer your questions and give you some information," the woman says in a calm tone.

I nod, and as Alisha rearranges her clothing, I stroll to the desk and grab the photos of our little wonders.

Alisha sits down and stares at the doctor with a pleading gaze. "Please, Doc, tell my husband not to go bat crazy protective on me."

"Okay, to both of you. Being pregnant is something special. It's a time where a woman's body goes through a transformation that requires monitoring, and with twin pregnancies, it requires more. We place every mother pregnant with twins in the high-risk category because, with twins, you are at a higher risk of developing specific problems."

My heart rate shoots up at those words.

"But that doesn't mean she will, Cole." I glance at the older woman, giving me a knowing glance. "Your face says, if it's up to me, I’d keep my pregnant woman in the house, and I won't let her leave it until she delivers."

I shrug. She chuckles as she sees Alisha's crossed arms and raised brow. "One piece of advice I give every father is that they need to support their partner. Alisha can work if her body allows it."

"And what about her being tired?"

"That is normal. Every pregnant woman goes through that period."

Alisha lets out a content snort.

The doctor focuses back on Alisha. "But… pregnancy is tiring and being pregnant with twins even more. You need to listen well to your body's needs. So, I'd recommend that you implement a rest period every day. This way, you get into the habit of taking a few minutes to lay still and be quiet."

I send my wife a full smile.

"Okay, and advice to both of you. Read the information and talk with each other. With that said, let's schedule a new appointment. If you have questions or if you doubt something, call. There is no such thing as a stupid question."

The moment we walk through the door of the hospital, I stop, turn, and lift my wife in the air. She wraps her legs around me and cups my face in both her palms as we stare into each other's eyes.

"Two babies," she says while caressing her thumbs over my cheeks.

"If they are as pretty as you, they will have me wrapped around my finger the moment I meet them."

"Do you believe we'll have girls?"

I nod, and she chuckles.

"I'm thinking of two mini bulldozers."

"Be careful what you wish for," I say, smiling.

"Whatever sex they have, they're ours, and I'll love them no matter what."

"That's the right answer, Mr. I-Almost-Passed-Out.'"

I roll my eyes. "I told you I don't do well with surprises."

"Our parents are going to flip tonight. But first, let's go to the Brown family. Samantha is there, and I can't wait to tell them."

Alisha

As we parkour car next to Brian's at the Brown residence, Sam and Charlotte come walking out. I love the friendship between the girls. Sam treats Charlotte as her little sister, and Smartypants loves it. I jump out of the car and call out to them.

"Hey, you two."

Both girls hurry our way.
