Samantha stops next to her father. "What are you two doing here?"
"Oh, we have news that we wanted to share with you."
The teenager's brows furrow when Cole pulls one of the ultrasound photos out of his inner pocket and hands it to his daughter. Sam turns it and gasps. Her eyes dart back and forth between her father and me.
"Is this a joke?"
"No joke, it's real," I answer.
Sam lets out a loud shriek and launches herself at me.
Charlotte, who watches her friend, gets curious and pulls on Samantha's sleeve. "What is that? Let me see." Samantha lets go and turns to show her the picture. The second Charlotte's eyes lock onto it, they expand.
"A baby!" Her eyes dart to mine. "You're having a baby?"
I nod! With the speed of a bullet, she turns and runs into the house, squealing.
"No, Charlotte, wait!" I yell, but it's too late. Cole chuckles. "That girl cracks me up. Let's see what she spilled."
As we walk into the house, towards the kitchen, it's Emma's voice that makes me laugh.
"Cupcake, calm down. You're not making any sense."
When we arrive in the kitchen, we find Charlotte running around the kitchen island, with the sentence on repeat. "Liam will have a best friend!" Nick and Emma follow her movements while Brian is standing next to Nick. When our blond friend notices us, a wide grin spreads across his face.
"Of course. Marrying her wasn't enough," he says with a knowing grin to my husband.
"You bet it wasn't," Cole says with a smile.
Nick and Emma turn their heads, and when they see us, Charlotte makes sure the universe knows by shouting,"Auntie Alisha and Uncle Cole listened to me and made a baby! Now Liam will have a best friend too when he grows up!"
Brian burst out into rumbling laughter. "Oh, god, your girl is the funniest."
Emma rushes over to me and hugs me tight. "Congrats! I can't believe you're pregnant. How are you feeling?"
"Tired but good."
Charlotte walks over to Brian and smiles at him. "Now you're the only man who needs a girlfriend."
Brian's mouth drops at her direct statement, and now it's the rest of us who ignite into a giant laughing fit.
"Oh, Charlotte, you're amazing," Cole says. "But before that happens, I have another surprise for you."
Her eyes fixate on Cole. "Liam will not have one, buttwobest friends."
She furrows her brow as she overthinks his words while Cole holds out the photo where you can see two babies to Emma, who takes it and shrieks, "Twins?"
"What?" Both Nick and Brian stare at Cole, who has a proud grin on his face.
"This bulldozer made two babies at once."
The kitchen fills with Charlotte's screams of joy. The astonished faces of our friends as the news lands are hilarious. Samantha blinks. "I'm going to have two siblings!" Within seconds, she finds her way over to her father and hugs him tight.
"This is the coolest news ever. I always wanted to have a sibling, and now I'll have two."
"This calls for a special treat! I made a double fudge cake!" Emma announces.
"Oh, yes, give it to me," I say, rubbing my stomach. "I'm hungry as fuck. These babies prefer fresh fruit and anything sweet."
