The only thing was, there was no way forward. Because Sol was going to leave.

“Penny for them.”

He roused himself from his thoughts. “Huh?”

Sol glanced at him with a smile. “I guess I don’t have to ask where your mind was, do I?”

Butch chuckled. “Okay, you got me.”

“No regrets?”

“Why would I have those?”

Sol grinned. “I offered to help you with your morning wood, but you turned me down.”

Butch wasn’t sure why he’d said no. Maybe because he wanted their next time to be him giving instead of receiving. One thing was certain—he’d loved waking up to find Sol hadn’t lied. He’d curved his body around Butch’s, his solid cock pressed against Butch’s bare ass, and it had felt like the most natural thing in the whole wide world.

“I lost you again, didn’t I?”

Butch’s face and neck were on fire.

“We still on for Mirror Lake tomorrow?” he asked. The prospect of spending more time with Sol lit him up inside.

“I said so, didn’t I?”

“I know, but I thought you might wanna do something with Toby.”

Sol snorted. “He’s cute, but he’s not my type.” He reached across and squeezed Butch’s thigh. “I’d rather do something with you. And I don’t mean just a repeat of last night.”

Lord, he knew how to make a guy feel good.

“I could get Matt to make us some lunch, and we could eat there.” Matt wouldn’t mind.

“And you’re sure me riding off with you isn’t going to raise those eyebrows you were talking about?”

“They can raise ’em all they like.”

What shocked him was that he meant every word.

Sol chuckled as they drove the trailer to the stable.

“Don’t look now, but we’ve got a welcoming committee.”

Three figures stood ahead of them, and at the sight of Paul’s smile, Sol reminded himself he needed to have words with the other two.

Toby had some explaining to do. Robert too, if it came to that. He might not be entirely blameless.

“Are you gonna say anything?”

Sol glanced at Butch. “About what?”

“The bottle of Jack. Your theory we were set up.”

He snorted. “I’ll thank Toby for the bourbon, but that’s all he’s going to get out of me.” Then he grinned. “I wouldn’t give him the satisfaction. He’d only get smug.”

He stopped the trailer and switched the engine off. Paul had the side door open in a heartbeat, and Sol caught his low crooning as he stepped inside to untie Sorrel.

“Oh, you’re a beauty. Come on, boy. I’m going to take good care of you.”
