Butch snorted. “In your dreams. We’re in our fifties. Our days of going at it all night are long past. Not until we’re gonna resort to the little blue pills.”

“I already take little blue pills.” Sol reached over him to the nightstand and grabbed a white bottle. He handed it to Butch who peered at the label.

“Descovy,” he read aloud. “What’s this?”

“It’s my PrEP medication.”

Butch rolled over to face him. “You mentioned that once. I didn’t know what it was at the time, so I did a little research. You take it to prevent HIV?”

Sol nodded. “It’s good at what it does, but it can’t prevent stuff like STIs. That’s what condoms are for.”

“Are all the guys you do scenes with on this?”

“Most. It makes sense if you have a lot of different scene partners. But one thing doesn’t change. Every guy I fuck has to show proof of his latest test.”

“Test?”

“Yeah. If you’re taking PrEP, you get an HIV test every three months. A blood test at that.”

“I’ve never had one of those. Then again, I’ve never fucked without a condom, and my sex life before you was limited to one act, so I guess you could say I’ve always played it safe. I’ve never had a blood transfusion either, and the only drug I’ve ever taken? Beer.”Butch studied the little bottle. “Can you get tested if you’re not on PrEP?” His pulse quickened.

Sol took it from him and replaced it on the nightstand. “Of course. I tell everyone to get tested regularly. You have a regular check-up, don’t you?”

“Sure. They check my weight, heart rate, blood pressure, the usual stuff. Then there’s the prostate check, which feels nothing like when you putyourfingers inside me.” Butch grinned. “Maybe that’s a good thing. Only, they’re not doing that anymore—I have to have a blood test now.”

“A PSA test. Yeah, that’s because of your age. I have the same test.”

“Seems like there are more tests now than there ever were before. I guess that’s down to age too. Jesus, you hit fifty and it’s all downhill from there. They screen for colon cancer, lung cancer, diabetes…” He paused. “I quit smoking, by the way.”

Sol’s soft kiss to his neck spoke of his approval. “Do they test for STIs?”

“Yup.”

“Well, I share my HIV and STI results with all my partners and vice versa. It’s good to know you’re not about to share something… unwelcome.”

“Don’t suppose you know if there’s a place around here where a guy could get tested?” He aimed for nonchalance, but knew he’d failed the second Sol cupped his cheek and locked gazes with him.

“As a matter of fact, I do. There’s a clinic in Bozeman.”

Butch chuckled. “Let me guess. Something else you were researching last week.”

“Got it in one.” Sol studied his face. “Is that something you want to do?”

There was a fluttery feeling in his chest. “Yeah, it is.”

“Butch… you’ve always used condoms, right?”

He nodded again. “But… if it was safe… I…”

Sol rolled him onto his back and pinned him to the mattress. “You want us to go bare?”

Lord, his heart…

“Only if it was safe… and if you wanted that too.”

Sol said nothing for a moment, and then he kissed Butch on the lips.

“I do, but it’s going to be a goal. Does that work?” Another kiss. “We still have a lot to talk about, but bareback is going to be on the list.”
