Rebel helped Kara up from the couch, and I stood quickly to get her other side.

Instantly, the room spun, and I crashed back down, the couch catching me.

Vaughn clapped me on the shoulder. “Easy. You’ve just given blood and you’ve probably got a concussion after hitting the decks earlier. I’ll help them.”

I scowled at him, but there wasn’t really much I could do unless I wanted to embarrass myself again by trying to get vertical. He and Rebel took Kara to Fang’s bedroom down the hall. A moment later, Vaughn reappeared and came to stand in front of me, a frown pulling at his mouth.

“Rebel is going to stay with Kara until Fang gets back. We agreed I’m taking you home before you pass out again.”

I raised an eyebrow. “And by agreed, you mean she told you to take me home and put me to bed and you said, ‘Yes, ma’am?’”

Vaughn held out a hand and hauled me to my feet. “I think I said, ‘Yes, Roach,’ actually, but same thing.”

I sniggered but paused for a second, waiting to see if the world was going to spin again. When it didn’t, I faked a bout of wooziness.

Vaughn grabbed my arm and slung it over his shoulders, the other coming around my waist. “Shit, are you going to pass out again, O’Malley?” The joking tone left his voice. “Did you actually hit your head earlier? Do I need to take you to a hospital? Fuck, if you have a brain bleed, I’m going to kick you in the balls.”

I sniggered. “Nah, was just a ploy to get your arms around me.”

Vaughn stopped and stared at me.

I flashed him my most charming grin.

He scowled back.

I loved when he scowled. It was so hot.

He shoved me away. “You jackass. Walk by yourself.”

I slipped my fingers between his instead. “I’d rather do this.”

Vaughn glanced around the club. He noticed Hawk watching and dropped my hand.

Right. It was like that then. Still. Same old shit, we were just older. Apparently, me sucking his dick on a road trip, and then a threesome with Rebel where he’d made me come with a vibrator, didn’t count for shit.

Fucking typical, in-the-closet Vaughn.

“You two fucking now?” Hawk asked crudely around chewing on the end of a toothpick.

Vaughn’s cheeks went pink, and his pace picked up slightly, until we were outside the clubhouse. He strode toward his car like a man on a mission, leaving me trailing behind.

With every step, I grew more and more annoyed. What was so wrong with me that he didn’t want people knowing we were together? Was it just that I had a dick? Or maybe it was he was forever the millionaire’s son, while I was just the gardener’s kid.

Never fucking good enough.

Anger coursed through me until it had nowhere else to go. I quickened my pace until I was right behind Vaughn.

We drew closer and closer to the car, and I tried to reel in my anger so I could see it from his point of view.

Except I couldn’t.

Because I’d never been ashamed of him.

He’d been the first person I’d ever fallen in love with. I would have told the entire fucking world about us, even back then, but at least when we were eighteen, he’d had an excuse. He’d had a girlfriend. Parents who maybe wouldn’t understand. Harold Coker breathing down his neck about being straight and marrying to move the business forward.

None of that applied anymore. Vaughn was a full-grown man, not an impressionable little boy.

I shoved him so hard he went crashing into the side of his car. He let out a grunt as he connected with it, then spun around, eyes wide with surprise.
