I was moving on.

Healing.

Vaughn, Kian, and Fang were a huge part of it. So were Kara and Bliss and the world’s sweetest baby, who stared up at me when I peered over Queenie’s shoulder at Hayley Jade’s pretty little face. “Bye, baby girl.”

Then I glanced over at War, who was sitting awkwardly on the edge of a couch, looking paler than normal and totally uncomfortable.

“Do I need to pay for some sort of license to use that nickname for her? You do have copyright on the ‘baby girl’ nickname, right?” I couldn’t help the tease. It seriously was pretty much all he called Bliss. She might as well have not even had a legal name.

He winced at me. “You can use it.”

I frowned back, not liking he was in pain. “You aren’t even going to fight for it?”

“I’m not really up for verbal sparring with you tonight, Rebel.”

My gaze traveled to his gunshot wound, and I gasped, storming across to rip aside his jacket. “That’s bleeding, War!”

He yanked the jacket back into place and waved his good arm around, motioning for me to be quiet. “It’s fine. Don’t tell Bliss.”

Bliss wandered out of the bathroom, fixing an earring in her lobe. “Don’t tell Bliss what?”

“War’s wound is bleeding,” I announced loudly.

War shot me a murderous look. “I could have you killed right here, Rebel. There’s plenty of people here with guns. For fuck’s sake.”

We both knew he couldn’t. Fang, Vaughn, and Kian were all in the other room.

Bliss stormed over and ripped aside his jacket. “You are! You said you were fine!”

“I am!”

She glared at him. “Hawk!”

War rolled his eyes. “Seriously with tattling. All of you are as bad as each other. I’m fine. Let’s go.”

But he was only halfway to standing before he sank back down on the couch.

Hawk raised an eyebrow from the pool table, pausing with the cue in his hand before he took his shot. “I told you; you can’t be out of bed yet. You aren’t strong enough. If you’d gone to the hospital like I’d told you, you probably would have been fine by now, but since you’re a stubborn asshole, it’s taking longer for you to heal. You can’t go to that concert.”

War sighed. “Fine. I’ll go back down to the dungeon and go back to bed.”

It was pretty obvious to me, even though he was complaining, that was exactly what he wanted to do.

Bliss stood, putting her arm around his middle. “I’ll stay here with you tonight.”

War put his fingers beneath her chin and tilted it up, dropping his mouth down on top of hers. “No, baby girl. You won’t. You’re not coming down there. You’re going out, and you’re going to have fun, because it won’t be long before we’re elbows-deep in diapers and bottles.” He brushed his thumb over her mouth, cutting off her complaints. “This is Rebel’s night, and you’re her best friend. I know you want to go.”

Bliss looked at me.

I loved War, but he’d be just fine without his girl tonight. She was my girl too.

I gave her the pouty, puppy-dog-eyes face. “Please? Stage diving won’t be nearly as fun if you aren’t there to catch me.”

Fang rubbed a hand over his face wearily. “Please don’t do that, Pix. I don’t have it in me to kill all the men who’d be touching you.”

I blew him a kiss for his pain.

Bliss laughed. “Okay, I’ll come. If Hawk promises to watch War. And to call me if anything changes.”
