But jealousy surged through my blood.

I blamed that for the petty way I lowered the gun, aiming it at Hawk’s calf.

I pulled the trigger.

I was out the door and halfway down the hall before I heard his howl of pain.

Mixed in with War’s hysterical laughter.

“What the fuck is going on?” a big guy shouted from the common rooms. He stepped in front of me, seemingly not bothered by the fact I had a gun in my hand that I was clearly not afraid to use. They would have all heard the shot.

“Let him go, Aloha,” War called from down below. “He’s free to leave.” The laughter was still fresh in his voice.

Aloha frowned but edged around me, giving me and the gun a wide berth. He planted himself right between me and a woman holding a tiny baby.

My heart stopped. “Is that Kara’s baby?”

The woman glanced up at me so sharply, I knew instantly that it was. She didn’t need to confirm it. I inched closer, but Aloha glared at me.

I was clearly losing my mind. But I offered him the gun. “I won’t hurt her, I swear. Please. Just let me see her.”

Aloha looked back at the woman who shook her head, shielding the little girl with her body.

But it was enough.

Enough for something deep inside to whisper, mine.

Nova spun Winnie in a circle, the two of them laughing and singing the lyrics of a song we’d heard earlier in the night. I danced with them, doing my best ‘running man’ as we walked toward the parking station where we’d left the cars.

Vaughn shook his head at me, but his step was light too.

I caught his fingers, pressing mine between his. “Thanks for tonight. It was fun. Not as good as Britney would have been, but I give them props for trying. Where did you and Rebel disappear to at the end there?”

He grinned at me. “I’ll ask her if she’s up for a replay when we get home.”

“With me watching?”

“What do you think?”

I glanced at Fang, getting kind of hot at the idea of a repeat of what had happened at the gym that night.

But Fang was already on his phone, his face as dark as a thundercloud. He’d been like that ever since we’d realized Rebel, Bliss, and Kara weren’t in the box when it had been time to leave. He’d been like a kettle about to burst its top at the fact he hadn’t been able to get a call through to Rebel until just now, thanks to hundreds of thousands of other people all trying to make arrangements to get home at the same time.

“Where are you?” Fang practically growled into the phone.

He paused for a moment, and I watched him, wanting to know what was going on.

He dropped the phone away from his mouth. “Can you track her? They came out a different exit. I want to know where she is.”

I nodded, opening the app on my phone that showed a Rebel avatar, traveling along a map. “She’s not far. Five-minute walk, tops. Tell her it’d be quicker if she ran.”

Nash pinned me with a glare. “Do not try to make them do cardio right now, O’Malley. Bliss is about as fast as a snail these days, and that’s exactly how it should be when she’s growing a baby. I do not want her trying to run because you have an exercise obsession.”

I looked up from the little symbol on the screen that was indeed moving very slowly. I tapped Nash on the belly. “Anytime you want to train with me, I’d be up for it. I can get you those six-pack abs everyone wants.”
