Hooked on his gun.

I pulled the weapon from the back of his jeans and pressed it to the middle of his back.

Hawk froze.

There was a long silence where nobody moved.

Hawk was the one who broke it. “You’d better fucking kill me, prick. Or Iwillkill you.”

War reached for his gun.

“Don’t,” I snapped at him. “After all the fucking shit that just spewed from his mouth, I have no problem pressing the trigger.”

War nodded slowly, backing his fingers away from the weapon.

I didn’t move, just stood there, my brain racing.

“Go,” War said before I could come to any sort of conclusion.

I looked at him sharply.

So did Hawk. “You didn’t just say what I think you said, did you?”

War nodded toward the door. “I said go, Hayden.”

Hawk stared at his best friend.

War sighed. “What am I gonna fucking do? He’s Liam’s brother. He and his partners are our friends. Plus, Hayden isn’t even the one who ordered the hit on my old man.”

“Bullshit!”

“It’s true,” I spoke up. “I gave Caleb the contact. It’s one our old prez had used, and I knew they were good. But it was Caleb who wanted Army gone. He knew too much about what Caleb was doing. When he tried to back out of the deal, Caleb saw him as a loose end that needed dealing with.” I shook my head. “Same thing he did to me. Just collateral fucking damage because we were both stupid enough to get in with some rich, white businessman who promised the world and delivered shit on a platter.”

“Save me the fucking sob story for when you don’t have a gun pressed between my shoulders,” Hawk spat out through gritted teeth.

I stared at War. “I’m telling the truth.”

I was. Every word of it.

He nodded. “I believe you. Go.”

I couldn’t see Hawk’s face, but from the way he stood, he was anything but happy.

I backed away slowly, waiting for the other shoe to drop. For War to point his gun at me. For the door at the top of the stairs to be locked. My gaze never left War’s, the two of us staring each other down.

But there was something that felt almost like mutual respect in the standoff.

At least for now.

I wasn’t stupid enough to think it would extend past this moment.

But it was enough. I’d take it.

I walked backward up the stairs, and when I hit the door, reached behind me to open it.

“I’ll fuck your girl real nice and sweet tonight, Chaos. Deep and slow, until she’s crying out my name, coming on my cock, tits trembling as she orgasms.”

Hawk was a stupidly attractive man, and Kara was beautiful. I could hardly blame either of them.
