My stomach roils just a little. It’s been a challenge keeping this from him. I wanted to make sure I was right before I told him. Doc Simpson in Sunset Canyon confirmed yesterday.

Hundred percent for sure.

He sits and pulls me onto his lap. “What’s up, my forest sprite?”

I sigh. “I love you.”

He smiles. “I love you, too. Is that what you wanted to—”

“I’m pregnant.” I blurt it out and his mouth drops open.

He’s silent for a minute. And then two. And then my heart pounds in my chest.

Shit.

We’ve never discussed kids. Hell, the only reason this happened was by my fault. If I have to raise this child on my own, I will.

But I don’t want to.

“Jake…” I slide off his lap.

He swallows deep and Kraine comes over and places his head on Jake’s lap. Jake absentmindedly scruffles the fur on his head.

“You’re… pregnant? But how? I thought—”

“I missed a couple pills a couple months due to having the flu. I just forgot. I’m so sorry.” My eyes water.

“What are you sorry about? Are you kidding? This is…” He pulls me back on his lap. “This is the best news. I can’t wait to be a dad and take this little guy—”

“Or girl,” I interject.

“Yes, or girl… fishing and hiking. We’re going to be a mountain family.”

“And that brings me to. I don’t want to do this alone, and I want you by my side.” I slide off his lap and kneel on the floor. Kraine’s head tips as he watches the scene unfold.

I swallow as the moment gets to me. “I love you so much. I never imagined I would love someone as deeply, as wholly, and as completely as I do you.” I pull out the box and open it. “Since you haven’t made the move, I’m going to.”

He shifts and reaches into his pocket and before I can get those four iconic words out, he says, “Will you marry me?” with an outstretched ring sparkling in the overhead lighting.

My mouth drops open and Kraine licks my cheek as if he’s giving me his blessing. “Will you marryme, too?”

“Yes.” Jake leans forward and places his forehead to mine. “I will. Forever, baby.”

“Yes, I’ll marry you, too.”

Our lips meet and there’s no turning back. This mountain man is mine.

I’m not lucky. I’m not always perfect. And I’m not always in control.

But with this growly, sexy mountain man, I’m always feelin’ mighty damn fine.
