“I’m… Holy hell, I’m gonna…” Throwing his head back, Alex cried out, overcome by the sudden realization his body was on the verge of release without stimulating himself.

“Let it happen,” Julian said, his breathing heavy with exertion. “Let go.”

Allowing himself to surrender completely to the intense pleasure, Alex was consumed by his orgasm’s intensity. “Julian!” he cried out, his voice hoarse from the force of his climax.

Body trembling, Alex was only aware of Julian following, warmth flooding the condom. They clung together, panting harshly in the aftermath.

“You make it difficult to remain a gentleman.” His lips brushed Alex’s skin with every word.

Staring into the sink, Alex released his vise-grip on the basin to flex his aching fingers. “How many gentlemen do you know who fuck in a supply closet?”

“Touché.” He huffed out a laugh, easing out of Alex with a wince. He tied off the condom and disposed of it in the corner trash can. “Do you feel all right?”

Alex turned with a wide grin. “A little sore, but I should be able to walk out of here.”

“I should have been gentler. Apologies.” He looked away, ashamed.

“You earn an A-plus from me, Professor.”

He arched an eyebrow. “Considering the circumstances, perhaps call me Julian. Or Jules.”

Alex made a face. “Let’s stick to Julian.” He sniffed, surveying the closet. Clothes ruined, reputations at stake.

What did we just do?

Chapter 6

Thenightairwascrisp as Julian and Alex emerged from The Crimson Lantern, the glow from the bar casting them in a hazy red light. Gripping his helmet, Julian adjusted the satchel on his shoulder, hyper-aware of Alex walking beside him.

What did we just do?Julian asked as they walked in silence. Alex’s future shined brightly. Even under the streetlights.

“Are you all packed?” He glanced at Alex’s profile, gauging his reaction. “For your visit home?”

“Packed enough. My plane doesn’t leave until tomorrow afternoon.” Alex stopped and nudged his head behind him. “I’m actually this way.”

Julian stopped, too, releasing a trapped sigh. “We’ve certainly complicated the situation. Do you… regret what happened?” He winced.

“This was unexpected. Our connection.” Meeting his gaze for the first time since leaving the bar, he said, “No regrets here, but I’m still your student. At least for the next few months.” He pushed up his glasses. “I’m curious to see where this goes, though. Aren’t you?”

“We need to be discreet, for obvious reasons. Out of respect for you, we should take things slowly.” Julian paused, considering his words—and actions—carefully. “The day after break, the department is hosting a colloquium. It would be nice if you came. Would give us a chance to see each other, at least.”

“Straight into the lion’s den, huh?” Alex scratched his neck. “I don’t know if I’d feel comfortable in a room full of professors. Not after what we just did.”

“Of course. We’ll find the right time and place… Come to Book Club, then!”

Alex coughed on his laughter. “Book Club?”

“A week from Friday. Professors will be there, but also students. It’s a hodgepodge of people. Much more casual, laid back… and at my house. You might prefer that setting.”

Alex scraped his tennis shoe against the street.

“We’re readingPride and Prejudice,” Julian added, as if that might convince him to attend.

“You want me to read a book in a week? Plus the book you assigned for class?”

“Surely, you’ve readPride and Prejudicebefore.”

Alex tilted his head as if waiting for the punchline.
