“I know you can,” he replies. “But I like holding you.”

She glares at him. “Put me down.”

With a laugh, he sets her on her feet.

“Thanks for a fun day,” she says, putting her arms around me. I squeeze her tight.

“Thank you for coming.”

“I’m going to take her home,” Clay says before looking at me. And I realize that he’s telling me this for a reason. Because he’s afraid I might be jealous of them being alone together.

“I’ll see you guys at the club this week. Jade still needs her impact play lesson.”

Jade’s eyes widen. “I can’t wait. Can we practice on him?”

“What did I do?” He puts his hands up and stares at her with confusion.

I laugh again as I walk them to the door. When they reach the driveway, almost to his car, I feel the need to say something. Like if I don’t, I’ll explode.

“I’ll talk to Jack,” I blurt out. They both turn around and stare at me expectantly. “And maybe next time you guys can stay…the night. I need to talk to him first.”

Jade’s lips part with a gasp as her eyes meet mine. “So, you really…want to try this?”

“Yes. I do.”

Clay bites back his smile, but it’s Jade who bounds back to the front door, grabbing my face for a kiss. She moans into my mouth. “Oh my God, I’m so excited,” she says after pulling away.

I force myself to smile, although inside, I’m feeling a lot of things. Excitement, fear, and everything in between. As I glance up at him, he seems to notice my apprehension.

This is hard. All of it. And no matter how much I want it, that won’t change.

My heart is bursting for both of them, and I care about them both so much.

But do Clay and I still have things to get over? Because right now, he looks as afraid as I am.

Not to mention, Jade and I never truly came forward with how long we’ve been seeing each other without him.

We can’t start a relationship with secrets, can we?

Surely, we’ll get past them. We care about each other enough.

We’ll make it work.

Rule #38: When in doubt, consult someone with experience.

“Will you knock it off? I’m trying to work.”

“What’s wrong? Is this distracting you?”

The door to Hunter’s office in the back of the club is half-open, but as I approach, I hear him and Drake arguing, so I pause and gently rap on the door.

“Knock, knock,” I say carefully as I peek my head around the corner.

“Come in,” Hunter calls. He’s sitting at his desk with Drake stepping away from him with a mischievous grin.

“I’m sorry to interrupt,” I say carefully, my gaze passing back and forth between the two.
