Ellis chews on his bottom lips for a beat before focusing on me.

“Are you sure this is a good idea?” he urges.

“Do you have a fucking better one?”

His lips part to argue, but no words spill out. And after a couple of seconds, he looks down at his computer, lifting the lid once more to get Aubrey what she needs.

ALANA

When I rejoin Mav and JD downstairs, things are tense.

They’re each sitting on a couch, both resting their elbows on their knees, their heads dipped low, looking as serious as they do hot.

Something flutters inside me as I study their profiles.

My life might be a clusterfuck of epic proportions, but it sure has been worse than it is right now.

Two men who look like that and who can make my spine arch and toes curl. And I’ve barely touched on what Mav can do…

“I know you’re watching us, Doll,” Mav murmurs, cutting off whatever JD was saying before he slowly turns toward where I’m resting against the doorframe.

His eyes blaze with heat so intense, it makes my muscles clench. For a few seconds, they hold mine before he lets them drop.

“You’d look better in my clothes,” he points out, after finding me in another of JD’s shirts.

“Nah, she’s perfect as she is.”

“I could also do with some of my own clothes,” he points out.

“Victor and your dad think you’re having a vacation in the asscrack of nowhere. But if you want to blow that cover and head home, be my guest,” JD offers, holding his arm out to gesture toward the door.

“You don’t mean that,” I say, stepping deeper into the room.

“And get you all to myself again?” he teases. “I think I do.”

I shake my head, coming to a stop between them at the coffee table.

My body burns and my skin tingles with their attention. Both of them try to silently lure me in, to pull me to them, to make me choose one over the other.

But how am I meant to do that?

Sure. Mav would be the obvious choice. He’s my husband.

But JD…

There is something about him. The playfulness mixed with the tortured soul that hides beneath the surface that I don’t think he’s aware I see. His boyish smile and the shadows in his eyes. Both sides of him are as addicting as each other.

“Julian,” I warn, staying put, unable to make a decision between them. “Have you filled Mav in?”

“Yep. And he thinks he’s got an in with the Devils?”

“Oh?” I ask, turning to my husband.

“Razor sent me to sort out an issue with a shipment a few weeks ago. I had no idea I was about to walk into a shitshow that Reid had created with all this. But I might have won them over enough to get them on our side.”

“If that’s true, Reid might just worship at your feet. They’ve been the hardest to crack.”
