A laugh of disbelief punches from my lips as I take in what I can only imagine to be special editions.

I never in a million years would have thought that Reid Harris and classic literature would ever be said in the same sentence. But then again, that man is turning out to be full of surprises.

Eventually, I make it to the other side of the room, and drop into what can only be described as his throne.

I laugh again at the pure insanity of all this. Maybe it’s the sugar high and rush of caffeine, but once I start, I can’t stop.

Although that all comes to a crashing halt when a door slams somewhere in the distance and a deep voice booms, “Bro, where you at?”

I swear my heart stops dead in my chest. It didn’t occur to me before stepping in here that I might not be welcome.

He left the door open and me alone in the house, apparently. He must have known that I’d go snooping. He should have locked it if—

“Reid?” the voice bellows. “You trying to hide from us?”

My eyes dart from the door to the desk before me as I question whether I should be attempting to hide beneath it or if the man heading my way isn’t about to blow my head off for being somewhere I shouldn’t.But I can’t. My body is frozen with fear for who’s about to walk through that door.

The footsteps get louder and only a second later, shadows fall over the doorway.

My heart thunders, threatening to beat right out of my chest. My body is still immobile.

If this is Victor or one of his henchmen coming to collect me then—

“Well, well, well, lookie what we have here.”

“Alana Murray, what a fucking surprise. Big bro didn’t mention that you’d earned some privileges.”

The second I lock eyes on two of Reid’s little brothers, Devin and Ezra, I relax. Although, not completely.

They might not be as infamous as their big brother but both of them could pull a gun on me without much thought.

“I guess you don’t know all his secrets either then,” I muse, keeping my shoulders wide and my head high.

If I don’t cower to Reid then there is no fucking way I’m cowering to these two idiots.

“Fuck that. I’ve no interest in the twisted shit that goes on in his head,” Ezra explains. “Could make use of his coffee machine though. Dev, you in?”

“You know it? Rapunzel?” Devin asks, his eyes holding mine as if he’s waiting for me to be intimidated.

I might be sitting here in Reid’s domain, wearing only one of his shirts, but Dev’s going to need to try harder than that.

“Coffee would be great, thanks.”

With a nod, Ezra ducks out of the room, leaving me under the piercing, curious stare of Devin Harris.

“So…” he starts, moving toward me ominously.

Pulling his gun from his waist, he lays it on the table before rapping his knuckles on the top, making me startle, much to his amusement, before he drops into one of the chairs opposite me.

He spreads his legs wide, his inked arms draped casually considering there is what I can only assume is a loaded weapon between us.

“Finally got on your knees and blew Reid well enough to be granted freedom then?”

“And that just goes to prove how well you don’t know your big brother,” I point out, crossing my legs and folding my arms beneath my breasts.
