“You’d think this was my first pregnancy, not my third, by the way he’s acting,” Mandy laughed as she grabbed her water glass and took a sip.

“You have had two kids already, but this is his first. He’s going to go overboard,” Travis added.

“Soak it up! Let him wait on you.” Lila gave her a wink.

“Is that what you’re expecting?” Travis laughed as he looked down at his wife.

“Are you?” Mandy asked, eyes wide as she looked at her friend.

“What? No!” Lila placed a hand on her chest.

“Yet. I’m going to wear her down.” Travis gave Lila a wink as she laughed.

Lila rolled her eyes dramatically but ended with a smile.

The conversation quickly turned to Kade and Brody’s upcoming wedding. As happy as Dyllan was for his friends, he should have been paying attention as he was acting as the officiant as he had for both Zach and Travis’ weddings, but he couldn’t focus. Since the situation in the Czech Republic, his thoughts hadn’t been on his duties as mayor of Logan Creek or his upcoming trip to Vegas. Instead, he questioned every decision he’d made since leaving the army.

Why wasn’t he the one accepting private security positions overseas? He would have been there. Not his friend with a family. Him. Instead, he was safe, drinking beer, and planning a vacation.

“Look who’s here!” Lila shouted, pulling him once again from his spiralling thoughts. Turning, he saw Kade and Brody appear through the crowd, giving hugs and shaking hands with the group as they said hello.

“Hey, Dyllan! Glad you could make it!” Kade said, giving him a hug before taking a seat.

“Hey,” Brody added, nodding in his direction before taking a seat beside his fiancée.

“Where’s Skylar? She’s still coming, right?” Lila asked, looking around the packed room.

“Yeah, she was right behind us,” Kade answered.

“Hey! Sorry, I lost you guys in the crowd.” A familiar voice rang from behind him.

His shoulders stiffened. Sitting up straighter, he tried to avoid how his cock twitched at the sound of that voice, even if it also made him cringe.

No. It couldn’t be.

Standing and turning toward the voice behind him, his eyes drifted over the body of the beautiful blonde that had given him so much sass earlier in the day. Recognition crossed her face as she came to a halt in front of him.

“You!” She pointed her finger at him.

“Me,” he smirked, crossing his arms over his chest, realizing it’d been the first time he’d smiled in weeks.

“No. No way. This isn’t happening,” Skylar said, eyes wide as she froze in place.

“Do you two know each other?” Kade asked, eyebrows raised as she pointed between the two of them.

Neither Dyllan nor Skylar turned to face their friend, their gazes locked on each other.

She’d changed out of that red and white fuck me dress into a navy one that pushed her breasts into perfect globes. Matching sky-high blue heels brought her head almost to his chin, her petite form giving him visions of throwing her over his shoulder and carrying her out.

I’ll show her what a real man is like. I bet she only knows those city wimps.

“He’s the grump from the coffee shop!” She pointed her finger at him again enthusiastically.

“Dyllan is the Grumpy Bear?” Kade exclaimed, laughing.

“I really wish you would stop calling me that,” Dyllan growled at Skylar.

“Don’t act like one, and I won’t call you that.” Skylar placed her hands on her hips, eyebrow raised.
