Kyle wraps an arm around my waist and moves so that he’s lying on his back and I’m flat on my back on top of him.

“Don’t forget whose idea it was.”

Like he would ever let me forget.

“We’re just getting started,” he says. “It’s going to be a long night.”

CHAPTER32

Riley

“Eve, we’re going to be late!” I yell down the hall for my niece to hurry up.

It’s been two weeks since the ceasefire call between Kyle and I, and the three of us have grown into a comfortable rhythm.

“Coming!” my niece yells for the second time.

“Why’re you rushing her? We still have fifteen minutes before we need to leave,” Kyle says, coming up behind me.

I pivot around from the counter, ready to tell him off. Instead, my mouth falls open and no words come out. He’s standing there with light a blue shirt, half buttoned, tie hanging around his neck, and a light dampness from his shower reflecting in the short curls in his hair.

Staring at that beard reminds me of what we did last night. The way my juices glistened on his beard after he sat me on his face. The dull murmur of his laughter brings me back to the present moment. Kyle runs his tongue along his bottom lip.

“Got something on your mind?” His voice is husky. He knows exactly what I’m thinking about.

“Yes, that my niece is going to be late for school,” I lie.

Kyle doesn’t say a word as he rounds the kitchen island. In one swift move, he’s around the island and cupping my ass with one of his large hands, pulling me to his body. How is he semi-hard already?

A small groan spills from my lips.

“We do have some extra time,” he says in my ear, his lips brushing against the column of my neck.

I feel my insides weaken. Thank goodness, I’m saved when Eve comes bursting out of her room.

“What do you think?”

Kyle releases me with one last squeeze of my ass to face Eve. She does a little spin and then holds out her arms wide with a grin from ear to ear.

“You. Did. Not,” Kyle says through clenched teeth.

Eve’s smile drops. Then her eyes go wide. “I just braided it.”

She turns her head to give us a better view of the side of her head. I let out a sigh of relief when I see that no, she didn’t actually shave her head. She just did an intricate side braid that, from the original angle, made it appear as if there wasn’t any hair there.

“Stasi taught me how to do the braid since you guys won’t let me cut my hair.”

“And we’re not going to,” Kyle says sternly. “I don’t what the fuck my parents are thinking with her,” he mumbles low enough so that Eve doesn’t hear him.

He goes over to Eve and inspects her closely.

“Math isn’t your only super power, huh? The braid looks great.” Eve preens underneath his praise. He’s so good with her. “It’s time for breakfast. You’re not going to school on an empty stomach,” he tells her in that controlling nature of his.

“What took you so long getting ready?” I ask, even though it’s typical for her to need constant encouragement to get going in the morning. This morning, however, she has a math exam, which often has her ready early.

“I was talking to my dad.”

I pause with the coffee mug in my hand, halfway to my mouth. “Your father? He called?” I feel Kyle’s eyes on me but don’t look his way across the table.
