Silence fills the room as the door swings closed behind us.

“This is not how the night was supposed to go,” she murmurs, looking around the suite.

“Yeah?” I ask. “How was it supposed to go?”

“With me politely and lovingly turning down your offer to help fund my gallery.”

“Not going to happen,” I retort.

“How’re you going to tell me what I’m going to do with my business?”

I grin.

“And what about the other thing?” I say instead of responding to her sass.

“What other thing?”

“This.” I cup my hand around the back of her neck and yank her body to mine. My lips cover hers before the gasp entirely escapes her mouth. This time, my kiss is urgent, demanding, and unyielding.

I feel the power of our connection coursing throughout my entire body. It makes me feel like I can do anything, even conquer her fears and mine.

We’re both panting by the time the kiss ends. I can feel my cock stirring in my pants. I run my fingers up and down the length of her waist. I want nothing more than to strip her down and claim all of her, the way I should have done a long time ago.

“I can’t think straight when you kiss me,” she says.

“What’s there to think about?”

She looks at me like I have two heads. “Everything.” She steps out of my hold, making me frown from the loss of skin-to-skin contact.

“This has the potential to ruin everything. We can’t keep—”

“We can and will,” I promise.

Pushing out a breath, she runs her hand across her forehead. I take her hand and bring it to my lips, kissing her knuckles.

The way she rubs her lips together tells me she enjoys the feel of my lips on her body.

“This could ruin our entire friendship,” she finally says.

“Or make it even better than it’s ever been.”

Her eyes float closed, and I take that as an opportunity to cup the side of her face. I run my thumb along her cheek, noting how soft it feels.

“What if it all falls apart? I don’t think I’m all that good at relationships, Diego.”

“That’s because all of the losers in your past weren’t worth your time.” I put a finger to her lips. “Don’t defend them to me. Not tonight.”

No, not all of the guys in her past were exactly losers. But there were some bastards.

I force myself to put the past out of my head.

She shakes her head. “I’m not defendingthem. You know my past as well as I do. Besides, not all relationships work out.”

“Ours will.”

“How do you know that?”

“Because it’s you and me,” I say it with all the confidence I have in my body because there isn’t a doubt in my mind about this. “I won’t screw this up,” I declare.
