She winced. “Yeah.”

This sounded dangerous and not just for Kylie.

“I’ll get her back, Georgia. I swear it,” Country promised, rising to his feet.

Georgia blinked back tears. “She’s only three, Spook. You know what they’ll do to her.”

“I do.” He stood in front of me, lifting a hand to cradle my face. “Stay here. Help is on the way. You’ll be safe with Twitchy. She gets stabby when she’s worried.”

“Very funny, Spook,” she deadpanned.

I shook my head. “No. I’m coming with you.”

“Babe.”

“Spook.”

He sighed. “They already want you. Don’t you think it’s stupid to show up and hand yourself over like a fucking present?”

I didn’t want to see his logic. Every ounce of my being was terrified that this was the last time I would see him alive. What if he died trying to rescue Kylie, and I wasn’t there to help?

“What if you don’t come back to me?”

His expression faltered. “I will always come back to you.” His hand wrapped around my neck, drawing me close. Our foreheads touched. “You’re my Wildfire. It’s you and me, babe. Don’t doubt that I’ll come back to you.”

“Okay.” I had to swallow down my fear. “I love you.”

“Love you, Raven.”

Chapter 13

The Reaper inside mehad been silent until I learned Kylie had been taken by the same fanatics who took me and Heather as kids. This order had ruined multiple children’s lives, and I wasn’t letting them ruin anymore.

Georgia gave me a possible address for one of the Sect’s churches, and I hoped I would make it before something happened to that little girl. A hissing sound had begun in my ears, and I knew it didn’t originate from me. The noise grew louder when I made a turn that brought me closer to the church. The Reaper was impatient.

Speeding down the streets of Las Vegas, I followed my instincts, guided by the GPS. Tension began to build inside my body, and I gripped the steering wheel on the jeep a little too tight, almost breaking it when I heard a tiny crack.
