Page 118 of Unburdening His Heart

Nothing can wipe the grin off my face as the door clicks shut behind her. Within moments, the CT machine kicks on and hums. Our life together is just the beginning, and I can’t wait to start.

“Is there anything I can get you?” Charlie stands over me, a cute little dip in her left eyebrow. She bites her lip in concentration as she fluffs the pillow next to me for the tenth time since we got back to my apartment.

I wrap my fingers around her much smaller wrist and gently pull her towards me. I know she’s worried and fretting. I was only released from the hospital a couple of hours ago, and she hasn’t sat down the whole time. She’s been running around the apartment like a madwoman, fixing and straightening everything.

But we finally have some alone time.

Andrea, Addy, Nathan, and Jack just left to go back to Fraser. Nathan and Addy needed to get back to Sophia, which I totally understand. I think Jack and Andrea sensed Charlie and I needed the time and space from everyone else.

I push a lock of her fiery red hair that slipped into her face behind her ear. “What’s wrong, baby?”

She softens at my touch, leaning her cheek into my palm as she chews on her bottom lip more. I reach up and pop it out from between her teeth, then run the pad of my thumb across the blooming pink tint forming from her bite.

“Nothing,” she says as she blinks up at me.

Her shoulders are tense, and she has a smile on her face that doesn’t quite reach her eyes. I’m not satisfied with her answer, so I pull her further down to me, gently encouraging her bottom to land on my thighs. She tenses up even more.

“Andrew, I don’t want to hurt you,” she says sweetly as she tries to push off me, but I only pull her in closer.

“You won’t.” I hold in a groan as my ribs protest. I don’t give a shit about the pain. Something is bothering her, and I want to know what it is.

I grab her behind the knees and gently maneuver her enough to swing her left leg over my thighs so she straddles me. I lean in and steal a kiss, one so intoxicating it makes me breathless. She leans into me more, forgetting her worries about hurting me from earlier. Her fingers dig into my t-shirt as I deepen the kiss.

As my car flipped on the side of the interstate, all I could think about was that I may never kiss these lips again. That I may never feel the curve of her waist in my hands again or smell her sweet lilac scent again.

It gutted me then, and now it leaves me with an overpowering need to claim her in all the ways that will make her mine forever. She finally pulls back, placing her forehead on mine and rolling it side to side. A deep sigh leaves her beautiful, swollen lips.

“I could have lost you,” she brokenly whispers.

“I’m sorry, baby. I’m right here, and I’m not going anywhere.”

She only pulls me tighter against her, and I wrap my arms around her waist. “Promise?”

“I promise that I will do everything in my power to come home to you every night. There is nothing I want more than to have you by my side for the rest of my days.”

She breathes deeply. “There is nothing I want more, either.”

I only think about the question for a split second before I swallow, and it passes through my lips with an ease that I didn’t expect. “Marry me, Charlotte Reed?” A nervous but joyous explosion blooms in my chest as I wait for her to answer.

She leans back with a look of shock on her face at first, then it morphs into pure happiness, a look I’ve never seen on her. A tentative smile starts at the corner of her lips and grows until the smile is wide and breathtaking. “Are you sure?”

“More than anything in my entire life. Marry me.” This time, it’s less of a question and more of a demand because I can’t picture my life without her. I’m done pretending that I can.

I need her. I want her. I crave her.

“Yes, Andrew Shaw, I’ll marry you.”

My lips crash into hers, and my hands move to the back of her head, fisting her hair in between my fingers.

I groan. “Say it again.”

I feel her smirk against my lips as she grinds down on my already throbbing cock. “Yes, I’ll marry you.”

From that moment on, it’s just a flurry of hands, tongues, and teeth clashing as we rip at each other’s clothes and kiss each other almost violently. She seems to have forgotten about my ribs, and while I certainly haven’t, I’m not about to complain.

We’ve come too close to almost losing each other, and that does something to a person. It makes you feral, uninhibited, and just downright savage for each other. I reach down and unbutton her shorts as I slide my hand around to push them down as far as I can. I grab a handful of her toned ass. I groan as I lift, seeking that sweet, delicious heat that only her pussy can provide.

She throws her head back as she grinds down on me hard. It spurs me on to get her clothes off faster. I pull her shirt off to expose her heaving chest and erect nipples that push through her nearly transparent pink lacy bra. I reach behind her and unclasp it with one swift movement of my fingers.
