Then she nods once. "Fine. Let me meet her, then."

This is how we end up driving down to the cottage, with Jonah tagging along for some reason.

As I let myself in, Delilah is coming out of the bedroom adjusting her clothes. She starts when she sees all three of us standing there.

"Jesus," she jumps a little, hand over her chest. "You scared me."

"Sorry," Jonah says.

“No, it’s ok,” she says as her eyes drift to Melly. Then she waves nervously and smiles in that cute way of hers. “Hi.”

“Hello,” Melly says, holding out her hand. “Sorry to ambush you over here, but I’m Ollie's sister.”

“Of course.” She wipes her hand on an apron and gives my sister a firm handshake. "You two have a resemblance."

"We do?" Melly and I parrot as we glance at each other.

"Yeah," Delilah says. "It's in the eyes. Please have a seat. I just made cookies.”

"Perfect," Jonah says and makes himself comfortable on the sofa that Delilah and I made love on.

“From scratch?” Melly asks.

"Yup," I assure her. "They're divine."

“Can't keep them stocked long enough in my restaurant," Jonah agrees.

Delilah blushes prettily at the compliment and heads back into the kitchen.

By the time, she returns, Melly comments, "That's a beautiful dress."

It is. Delilah is wearing one of her famous sundresses, and this one is a pink color that really brings out her hair.

"Thank you," Delilah beams at her. "I got it from Sheila's Closet."

“I didn’t know they had a new collection out."

"They do," she responds. "The best part is they're having a sale in town next week. I can't wait." She sets down the plate and Jonah and I descend on it like a pack of wolves. I catch her rolling her eyes before she turns back to my sister. "Would you like to come with me?" Her voice is shy as she asks the question.

"Oh no," Melly waves her hand. "I'm far too old for those types of dresses."

I frown at Melly, wanting to reprimand or at least correct her, but Delilah beats me to it.

"Are you kidding?" she says. "With your figure, you would absolutely kill it. Especially the new collection. You know, I saw this dress on their website…would really bring out your eyes.“

"Oh, stop," Melly says, but she's blushing.

I reach for the final piece of cookie only to have Delilah swat me in the arm and look pointedly at my sister.

"Oh, right." I pick up the plate and offer it to her. "Would you like a cookie?"

"How can I turn down such an enthusiastic offer?" Melly says sarcastically, but I can see the approval in her eyes when she looks at Delilah.

And by the time the brief meeting ends, I can tell the two women are going to be best friends.

***

Delilah and I spend most of the week together. I rearrange my schedule, taking the first week off work in a long time and spend that time at home with her, cuddling, watching her bake, and occasionally discussing baby names.
