Stacey wiggled her eyebrows and picked up a cucumber slice off the cutting board. “So, what do you two have planned tonight?”

Kristen shook her head. “Nothing. You know, some of us actually work five days a week and don’t like going out on work nights.”

Stacey grabbed another slice of cucumber. “Noted. Don’t forget we’ll be here tonight. We shouldn’t be late. We’re double dating with Adler.”

Kristen’s eyes got wide. “Really?”

Jacob jumped in. “Who’s Adler?”

Kristen went back to cutting vegetables. “Adler’s Tristan’s friend…”

“Well, yes and no. Adler’s his best friend, but also his cousin.” Stacey interrupted.

Kristen continued. “Oh, sorry. His cousin, who was with him when we were at the mountains. Adler hit on Elizabeth. I think they kissed.” Jacob’s eyebrows jumped an inch.

Stacey shook her head. “They didn’t kiss. Tristan said that Adler tried, but Elizabeth turned her head.”

“That makes more sense,” said Jacob. “I’d be surprised if she did. I know it was a bad time, but she wouldn’t have crossed that line.”

Kristen spun toward him and jutted out her hip, the knife pointed at his chest. “Really? She didn’t think twice about crossing that line with you. She kissed you. Why wouldn’t she kiss a complete stranger?”

Jacob shot her a harsh look.

Stacey intervened. “Kristen. Don’t go there. That’s been dealt with a long time ago. Everything is good with you two and her and Brady. Let’s not bring that up again.” Thankfully, she was distracted by a knock on the door. She glanced between her brother and best friend. She could see the stress between them.

Not your issue, Stacey. They can handle their own problems.

She pulled open the door, and all the problems in the room disappeared. Tristan stood there, looking handsome, and a tingle went through her body as a smile lit up her face.

“Hey.” She breathed.

“Hey.” He held a bouquet of flowers out to her. All black-eyed Susan’s. They were beautiful. “I don’t know why, but they reminded me of your eyes. Brown with specks of gold.”

She felt herself flush. “They’re beautiful. Thank you.” They kissed and she let him in.

He greeted Jacob and Kristen while Stacey found a vase.

Adler was at the door. “Hey, sorry for barging in, but Callie needs to use the restroom.”

He looked dashing in tight dark jeans, cowboy boots, and a red t-shirt. The blonde girl next to him wore a tiny white dress with a plunging neckline that showed voluptuous cleavage. Stacey raised an eyebrow to Kristen, who did the same.

Jacob put out his hand. “Jacob, Stacey’s brother. I’m guessing you’re Adler.”

Adler shook his hand. “Yep. And this is Callie.” He gestured to the girl next to him. “Bathroom?” Jacob pointed them in the right direction, and she smiled and left the group. She wasn’t gone long, and they were able to head to dinner.

Before they got to the car, Tristan grabbed Stacey’s arm, pulling her into his chest. “I am not sitting in that car and driving into the city without doing this first.

He brushed her cheek as he placed his lips lightly on hers. Her heart fluttered madly, and her hand went behind his neck, pulling him in closer.

They pulled apart but kept their foreheads together. Stacey breathed in deeply, inhaling him. “I missed you.” Her eyes fluttered open.

His lips ticked up. “I missed you too, gorgeous.”

She brushed her finger over the crease in his cheek that she loved.

“Let’s go. We have reservations,” Adler called from the truck.

He grabbed her hand and pulled her to the truck.
