“I’m goingto give you one last chance, Lauren. You’ll break my heart, but I’d rather you did it now. Think hard about whether you can be with me and not havechildren.”

“Don’t you think I have already? We could adopt, we could seek out some consultant and see if anything can be done. If it can’t, then we can love each other evenmore.”

He stared at me. I knew I was going to have some more convincing to do at a later date, but I meant what I’d said. I wanted him and if that meant forgoing children, then so beit.

“How soon can you move in?” Mackenzie asked as he placed two coffees on the breakfast bar. “Damn, forgot tea,” headded.

“Is that you asking me to live withyou?”

“Isn’t that what we’re supposed todo?”

“You know, when I first met you, you answered every question I asked, with a question. It wasannoying.”

“And when I first met you, you evaded every question I asked, it wasannoying.”

“As soon as I can pack up my flat, Iguess.”

He smiled. “I’ll call a moving company tomorrow, you can rent itout.”

I took a sip ofcoffee.

“So, who won?” Iasked.

He looked over the rim of his cup andfrowned.

“The game? Who won?” Iasked.

“I was never playing but…me, Lauren, me. I wonyou.”
