Her reflection gave it some thought, then nodded in agreement. Del just hoped the rest of the story would come soon so she could put these worries to rest. Until then, she just had to trust him.

Hopefully, this time, her plan wouldn’t come back to bite her.

Not that she had time to sit around and worry about it. This week, the bookstore fundraiser group would have its hands full, their planning kicking into full swing. There were sponsors to procure and advertising to price out and prep ahead of the event, and food and drink vendors to line up for the day of. And ticket sales. And parking strategies to iron out. And press releases to send out. And—

Del shook her head. No sense in getting overwhelmed about it. They had an awesome planning committee team assembled, and she needed to trust the process. Besides, worrying or not, it wouldn’t all be done today. There were too many pieces in motion, too many steps yet to be determined. One of her father’s often-used phrases of wisdom came to mind:

How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.

That’s what this fundraiser was: a giant, bookstore-sized elephant. She’d tackled mammoth projects before, and with the help of her friends and family, she would do it again. Only this time, she also had one handsome hermit to not only help but also provide delicious distractions as needed.

Thank heavens for that, because looking to the weeks ahead, she was going to need a fair number of distractions to keep her sanity in check. And she couldn’t think of anyone she’d rather be distracted by right now than him.

Chapter Eleven

Isaac woke Mondaymorning, actually excited for the day to begin. Usually, Mondays were at the bottom of his favorites list—the past seven months, even more so. But that was before he’d let Del into his life. Now he was pumped to start a new week, and curious to see what each day would bring.

With Delaney, he never knew what to expect.

Friday night had been the highlight of his year, starting out with great food and excellent company. But once they’d hit the bedroom? It’d been fireworks from the first touch. She’d been insatiable, eager to please, and open to being pleased. Usually, his “first” nights were filled with tentative moves and a good share of fumbling.

Not with Del. He’d thought she was amazing before, but Friday night had taken that appreciation to a whole new level. Throughout the weekend, they’d each found ways to lure one another back to his bed. He couldn’t get enough of her and doubted he ever would.

With that realization came another first: actually dreading the day he would have to leave Bourbon Falls.

Isaac brushed the thought aside, unwilling to let anything dampen his spirits. He and Del were having fun, not preparing wedding vows. Who knew? Maybe they’d get sick of one another before Will got his damage control strategy to work. Until then, Isaac was going to savor every day he had with Del, so long as she would have him.

He texted her midmorning, after breezing his way through M&M’s online meeting, unable to think of much else.

Care to join me for lunch? Caesar Salad topped with grilled chicken.

Her response came within seconds.

Would love to! I’ll swing by after Chase is back from his.

Excellent, that would give him a few more minutes to prepare.

Perfect. And lunch comes with a show. Prepare to be amazed.

This time, her response took a few more seconds to arrive.

Um, I don’t think I have that long of a lunch…

Isaac laughed aloud.

The website, Del. I was talking about the website. LOL

Del sent back a blushing emoji, then let him know she’d text when she was on her way. Unfortunately, now he was thinking about all the delicious things he could do to her if neither of them did have to work this afternoon. But there was always tonight. Hopefully, she didn’t already have plans.

He refocused on his laptop, diving back into the proposal specs he was working his way through. Though stretched thin, Will had still managed to get his foot in the door with three excellent potential clients, albeit slightly outside their usual target market. Hopefully, between their team’s perseverance and the dying social media dumpster fire, business would begin to grow again. The East Coast was a hot market right now, and he knew some of their newest software solutions could easily be cloned and customized to benefit other future clients.

By the time Del texted that she was on her way, Isaac had become completely submersed in his work. In a panic, he bolted from the room to throw together their lunch. She walked in a few minutes later and bent to calm a whining Louie, eyeing the kitchen now in disarray.

“I take it someone got lost in their work after we texted?” she asked, a knowing look in her eye.

“Maybe,” he said with a wink.

“How about I take poor Louie to his bathroom in the yard and give you another minute to get everything together?”
