Isaac stepped around the counter and pulled her into a long kiss. She tasted as sweet as ever, her lips soft against his. He had to remind himself to let go, that they were both technically on the clock. On a grin, he returned to his food preparation tasks. “Thank you.”

“Thankyou.”

She waggled her brows then disappeared outside with Louie. Isaac was just dishing up their salads when his cell phone began to ring. Will’s name scrolled across its screen.

“Not a good time,” Isaac murmured, silencing the ring.

Will called right back.

“Dammit.” Isaac snatched up his cell and shot a quick text to his partner, asking what was up.

Can you talk?

Isaac glanced out the front window to where Del stood, coaxing Louie to hurry up and do his thing.

No. What’s up?

Have a bid question for you, call when you aren’t in the john.

Isaac responded that he would, relieved Will hadn’t insisted he call right then. But now he was curious as to what the update was about. Was the media storm closer to ending, or had more thunder rolled in?

The front door squeaked open, followed by doggie nails clicking on the entryway tile.

“Man, there is no hurrying this dog to do anything, is there?”

Isaac pushed his thoughts about Will and Katrina aside on a grin. “Welcome to my world.”

“It’s a good thing you’re cute, buddy.” Del gave Louie a scratch behind the ears then unclipped his lead and hung it by the door. “Still need some help in here?”

“Nope, have a seat. I just need to grab my laptop. I know you’re short on time, figured I could give you the grand tour while we eat.”

Isaac grabbed his cell phone from the counter and made for his office. The last thing he needed was Will to change his mind and call back and Del to try to be helpful by answering. Though he was starting to hate feeling like he was sneaking around behind Will’s back. Which, honestly, he was. He just wished there was a way to tell Will about her without him freaking out. Because knowing William McManus, that’s exactly what he would do.

“Okay, this isn’t a hundred percent done,” he warned as he set the machine down on the end of the counter, “but it’s close. I took in your suggestions from last week and added a few more pictures of downtown over here. Visitors click on this, and it takes them to the registration page. All I need is for you to get the banking information from Faye, and that part will be ready to test. Oh, and I added a link to your town’s website and added a map that automatically shows all the store names and locations so people can explore all of Bourbon Falls while they’re here.”

Del was surprisingly quiet.

“What’s wrong?”

“Nothing.” Her eyes began to glisten. “It’s…perfect.”

Isaac took one of her hands in his and gave it a gentle squeeze. “I’m glad you like it. Do you think the others will, too?”

“Are you kidding me?” She laughed, fanning the unshed tears from her eyes. “They’re gonna absolutely flip out when they see this. When can I show it to them?”

“When’s your next meeting?”

“Tomorrow evening.”

Isaac nodded. “Here, I’ll send you a link to the test site. Since the money piece isn’t done, you all can play around in it without hurting anything. I’ll just clear it all out before we go live.”

“Wow. I can’t believe we’re nearly there. And you!” Del leaned over to pull him into a bear hug. “None of this would even be possible without all you’ve done!”

Isaac wrapped his arms around her. “Don’t give me too much credit, now. I’m not the only person who can put together a simple website.”

“Okay, first, it’s not simple. And second”—she leveled a stern look at him—“stop being so damned modest. This looks amazing, and the whole town will soon be in your debt.”

“In my debt, hmm?” He leaned in and nuzzled the soft spot beneath her ear. “Does that mean I get to choose the preferred method of repayment?”
