She looked me up and down like I was worthless, her lip curling in a snarl. “He’ll come to his senses eventually. You and your fucked up brain will never be enough for him.” And with that, she picked up her drink, turned, and walked away, leaving me speechless.

“Hey, where is that water? I’m dying here.” Lea appeared at my side. “Nee, what’s wrong? You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”

“Who’s that?” I asked, pointing to the devil woman currently sauntering across the dancefloor.

“Oh, Eliza. She’s a total bitch. Why? What did she say to you?”

I shrugged, remembering seeing her with Archer at his piano. “That I was too broken for Arch, that he was only with me out of guilt and was looking for a way to leave because I’d never fulfill him. Oh, and wouldn’t I like to know where he was while I was missing?”

Lea hissed. “I’ll fucking kill her. She has a thing for Archer, but he’s never been interested. Ever.”

“But…”

“But nothing. Don’t you dare diminish how he feels about you. He deserves more, Nee. You owe him that, even if that’s all you can give him. Trust him, please.”

I nodded, trying to block her comments from my mind, focusing on my grinning friend.

“Why are you smiling like that?”

“You wanna go to another club? Apparently there is this witch there and the night gets pretty freaky. I mean, we’re in New Orleans. I want a bit of magic.”

“No!” I laughed. “Are you always this…” I struggled to find a word to describe her.

“Crazy, hyper, looking to get into as much trouble as possible? Hell yeah, and you love me for it.”

She flung her arms around me before waving at someone behind me.

“Hey, Archer? Are you coming out with us? We’re off to meet a witch?”

Archer frowned at me before shaking his head. “No. I think I’ll leave that to you weirdos. I want to dance with my girl for an hour or so, because you’ve stolen her all night and then I’m taking her home to give her a surprise.”

His hand pressed to my lower back, tracing small circles with his finger.

“Surprise?” I whispered.

“Yes, a surprise. But first dancing.” The burning in his eyes pushed away Eliza’s bitchy words, so all I could think about is spending some one on one time with Archer on the dance floor.

In the back of the car taking us to our hotel, Archer’s hand sat high on my thigh, his thumb stroking lightly, setting my body on fire. I still didn’t understand our connection, but I craved him like a drug. His touch, his smile, the look he got in his eyes when he stared at me, thinking that I wasn’t looking.

“You’re quiet.” I leaned my head against his shoulder, licking my lips as my eyes fixated on the outline of his swollen cock pressing against his jeans.

“Trying to stop myself doing unmentionable things to you in the back of this car. Watching you in this outfit all night has been hell. I nearly had to sneak off to the bathroom for a wank like a teenager.”

His hand shifted up slightly, making me glad that the car had a privacy screen.

“What would you do to me?”

He groaned, rubbing his free hand over his face.

“Right now, I want to sink my fingers into your pussy to find out if you were joking about not wearing any underwear and see if you’re as wet for me as I am for you.”

My hips rolled. “Do it.”

Twisting his body toward me, he braced one hand on the back of the seat and slid his other one up to the apex of my thighs, burying his face in my neck as he pushed two fingers inside me.

“God, I don’t think you should ever wear underwear again if this is how wet you get.”

I ran my fingers through his hair as his lips pressed to my jaw.
