“We’re all staying, Sugar. Just sleep.”

When I woke again, there were three exhausted looking men asleep around me. Fox had his head pressed against my thigh, Marshall was asleep in a chair, his head tipped back at a weird angle that I knew would hurt when he woke and Dawson was curled up across the bottom of the bed.

A nurse pushed through the door, smiling when she found me awake. “How are you feeling?” she asked, checking my vitals on the monitor that beeped next to me.

“Sore, but okay.”

“If you press this button, you can get more pain relief.” She paused. “They all yours?” She looked between the three men.

“I think so.”

“Hang on to them. They obviously care about you a lot. They’ve not left your side since you got here. Even when we told them to go home because visiting hours were over, they made it very clear they weren’t moving.”

I smiled because it sounded so like them. “Sorry.”

“Don’t ever apologize for who you love or how much they love you.”

She clicked the button on my painkiller machine and before I could think much more about it, cold surged through my body and suddenly I couldn’t think about anything anymore.

Chapter 32

Dawson

“Takeiteasy,Sugar. One step at a time. Are you sure you don’t want me to carry you?”

Lea let out a huff. “Please stop. All of you. I appreciate all the fussing, but I’m fine.”

We walked in through the front door to the house. “I’ve missed this place,” she sighed.

None of us had been home in the week since she’d landed in the hospital. Archer or Charlie had brought us fresh clothes, and we showered and eaten there, so we didn’t have to be away from Lea.

“Come on, let’s get you to bed.”

She pouted. “I’ve been in bed for a week. Don’t make me go back there. I’ll sit on the sofa and I promise not to move.”

“Come on, Marshall. We can take care of her better down here,” I suggested.

“Don’t any of you have jobs to go back to?” she mumbled, obviously having had enough of our overprotective ways.

“Nope. None of us are going anywhere until you’re back on feet.”

She muttered something incomprehensible as Marshall guided her to the living room, where they both let out a collective gasp and a giggle fell from Lea’s lips. “Did you get the decorators in?”

Fox followed us in. “What the fuck?”

Instead of the leather sofas and matching armchairs, there was now a huge dark gray sectional sofa that had been positioned into a daybed, covered in the softest looking blankets and the fluffiest pillows. Next to the bed was a three layer trolley packed with snacks and drinks and a bell for me to ring if I needed someone’s attention. On the coffee table, there was a pile of new romance books as well as PJs and fluffy socks, alongside a huge bouquet of wild flowers and a note. Marshall passed it to Lea and I read it over her shoulder.

Lea,

We got you a few things to make resting easier, but blame Charlie for the sofa. Tell Fox his are in storage!! If you need anything, call me and let those 3 hunks of yours take care of you because I love you too much to lose you again.

Nee xx

She let out a whimper, and we all crowded around her. “Oh, my God. I need you to stop. Please. Let me sit down and go do something useful like make lunch or light the fire because it’s freezing in here.”

Without saying a word, Marshall helped her to the bed, easing her back against the pillows before dropping to his knees and slipping off her sneakers. I wasn’t sure if she knew how loud she sighed or how the pinched look of what I presumed was pain faded from her face as she settled back.

“Oh, these pillows are something else.”
