I scoffed. “I’ve worked in the business long enough to know you’re not justextra security. What are you? Ex-special forces, went private… maybe run a small PI company.”

He tensed and the woman next to him placed her hand on his thigh. “Be nice, T. Please.”

He huffed. “SAS. I did go private, but I now run one of the biggest protection firms in the country, but please, keep insulting me.” Sitting back, he undid his suit jacket in an obvious power move, showing me the guns holstered to his side.

I couldn’t help the laugh that fell from my lips. “Sorry. I’ve obviously poked a beast I should have stayed clear of.”

The woman next to him looked between us before bursting into fits of laughter too. “Marshall, ignore my annoyingly alpha husband. It was me who wanted to see you today. I’m Melissa. Dr. Melissa Lanton and this is Erin Stark. I head up the cardiology department at King's Hospital. Dr. Stark is head of emergency medicine. T mentioned your history, I’ve seen your record, I know what you did for your partner after her crash and I’ve seen the level of training you’re offering the staff here at the label. We want to offer you a job.”

I frowned, confused. “Thank you, but I have a job.”

“We want to share you. Half your time here and half heading up emergency frontline medicine at the hospital. You can be on the ground if that’s what you want or you can just join our training team. Either way, we want you to come work with us.”

Matt leaned forward. “Look, Marshall, think about it. We have a certain number of staff, and once you’ve trained them, you’re going to get bored really quickly.”

“And I can go back to being a bodyguard.”

“You can, but do you really want that?”

Did I? Did I want to be away, protecting people I didn’t really know, or did I want this life I was building and really starting to like? I knew what I wanted.

“I don’t want that, no. But how would it work?”

“Easy. We sit down at the start of every month and work out when you’ll be where. That way, you can work around Fox’s schedule, as well as anything Lea and Dawson have planned,” Matt explained.

Thomas raised a brow. “Your…”

“Partners.”

“Noted. There are also a couple of security agencies that would like your services too, but we can talk about that further down the line. It looks like you’re in demand, Marshall.”

“Well, I appreciate y’all thinking I’m up for the job.”

“Right, let’s get something set up for next week,” Melissa suggested. “Do you have an assistant I can get in touch with?”

“No.”

“You do now… I’m hiring you one. I’ll message you their details, Mel.”

“Great, then you can come in and meet the teams. Let us show you around,” Erin added with a smile.

“Sounds great.” I nodded, wondering what was happening in my life and why everything felt like it was finally falling into place.

Fox

Iwalkedinthroughthe front door, closing it behind me and throwing my keys onto the side before heading through the hall to the kitchen.

“Hi honey, I’m home.” Dawson looked up from behind the island where he was chopping something, offering me a half smile.

“Hey, Bunny. Good day at the office?”

“No, my boss is a slave driver and made me do some stupid interview instead of coming home early.”

He crooked his finger in my direction, beckoning me closer. As I neared, he put down the knife and fisted my top. “What would you have been doing if your mean boss would have let you come home at a decent hour?”

I leaned in closer, rubbing my beard against his cheek. “I’d be making out with my hot boyfriends while our girl is out with her best friend because I’ve missed them both. Where’s Marshall?”

“Take a guess where Muscles is?”
